Seattle’s Mindworks Hypnosis Ends Needle Phobia – Client Testimonial

End your needle fear with Mindworks Hypnosis.

Hi, Hypnosis Friends!

Does hypnosis work?  Yes!  Here’s more evidence.  Lucy C. of Seattle, WA used to have a paralyzing fear of needles and innoculations.  To the point of “hyperventillation” and needing to be restrained or medicated when visiting a doctor’s office.  She worked with me, and here’s her report:

“Hi Connie,

I have been waiting until I have needed to do something needle related so I could let you know how it went. Since working with you I noticed I have not been as nervous when thinking or talking about needles, to the point where my husband was really “freaked out” the day I came from your office because he was shocked at my complete turnaround. I even challenged him to try to get me to react to anything needle related and he was unsuccessful.

Today was the ultimate test. I had a doctor’s appointment and they asked if I wanted the TDAP shot.  Normally I decline this immediately, but today I thought let’s give it a shot, so I did. I used your technique that will help bring the calm feeling back. The fact that I went through with it shows that the hypnosis was successful! This was the first time in my life I have voluntarily had a shot without hyperventilating or without being restrained or medicated.

Thank you so much for everything, you have opened up many doors in my life
that I would not have had with my needle phobia. I have told everyone that
knows about my needle fear about you and have recommended they call you if
they need to work on anything!

Thanks again! — Lucy”

Michael laughed when he read this.  He noticed her language, her “unconscious pop” (that’s hypnosis jargon for revealing words showing what’s truly going on inside the unconscious mind) of saying she wanted to “give it a shot.”  Problem gone!  Yay, Lucy.  Good job.

I love this work, and I love success stories like Lucy.  Who’s next?  🙂

Warm Regards,
Connie

It’s Your Power – Hypnosis!

There was an ice cream parlor of my childhood.  It was called “Farrell’s.”  Their song, their jingle which I still remember: “Farrell’s is fabulous fun for everyone.”  Well, I’m borrowing that tune.  Hypnosis is fabulous fun for everyone!  Yes, it is!  🙂  It’s pleasant.  And it’s useful.  It’s a method to move you into your power.

All the positive changes that happen in hypnosis.  Quitting smoking, losing weight, ending fear, and etc.  That’s your power, not the hypnotist’s power.  I help you find your power and change your thinking, feeling, doing.  That changes everything!

When you find your power, that’s like moving from a cramped basement studio apartment into a palatial penthouse suite.  Or a mansion.  It’s bigger, and nicer.   More fun!  Go for it!

The Hypnotic Spread — Success, that is!

Walt Disney was a hypnotist?

Hi, Hypno-Friends!

“Life has improved drastically.”  One of the interesting things about hypnosis and Neuro Linguistic Programming is their power to “generalize” success into several areas of life simultaneously.  This often happens.  A positive change does not happen inside a vacuum, it happens inside a life, and life is movement and connections, with fingers which reach and intertwine and grow.

One healthy change leads to more healthy changes.  🙂  Once your mind gets rolling in that way (the purpose of what I do–focusing your mind on success), well, the desired changes happen quickly.  And spread more success.  The testimonial below is from a woman who got more than she bargained for when she came in for hypnosis.

Here is Kelli Zielinksi’s report of the dramatic changes she’s noticing in her life after a few sessions of Neuro Linguistic Hypnotherapy:

“Hi Connie, I’m doing fabulously! Working with you has absolutely changed my life, here’s some things I’ve noticed:

-Much more relaxed and focused; I’m able to deal with situations better than before when I get stressed, and am able to get into a state of calm when I need to.  My working life has improved drastically

-I’m sleeping properly!  I love that I sleep so much better; not only am I off the medication I used to have to take almost  nightly to help me sleep, I also find that the sleep I get is a lot deeper.

-Dropped two pant sizes

-Eating appropriate portions

-Drinking more water

-Increased motivation to exercise

I’ve lost weight, but the best part is not worrying so much about the weight. Instead, I’m focusing on healthy habits, and the rest is just working itself out. I feel like I’m in control and have the right priorities, rather than worrying so much about comparing myself to others. It’s a great feeling!

-Kelli”

Way to go, Kelli!  Thank you for sharing your success and allowing me to share it with the world here on my blog and website.  Yes, hypnosis works.  It has an effect.  It changes lives for the better.  It’s amazing.  It’s power.  Not the hypnotist’s power, it’s the client’s mind that has the power.  Kelli did this, amazingly well.  Yay, Kelli!

With the right tools, success is easy.  Find yours.

Warm Regards,
Connie

What is NLP? It’s Hypnosis on Steroids.

Does hypnosis work?  Does NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) work?  Absolutely, Yes!!  The evidence mounts.  Here is a video testimonial from Julia of Seattle, filmed today at the Mindworks Hypnosis offices.  Julia is another impressed client, who is marveling at the “profound differences in her life” via a process that feels so “comfortable.”  Yes, that’s NLP and hypnosis done well.  Julia had a single Neuro Linguistic Hypnotherapy session prior to this report.

You can find out for yourself.  Call us!  Connie & Michael (425) 564-8608.  Here comes my favorite expression again!!  🙂  “The proof is in the pudding, and you and your success is the pudding.”  Julia is enjoying hers.

The Secret to Successful Slender – Mindworks Hypnosis

Feel Great and Lose Weight!

Hi, Hypno-Friends!

When you reach your ideal weight, what will be different in your life? My clients often respond to this question with feelings. “I’ll feel happy. I’ll feel healthy, more energy. Proud of myself. Accomplished. Sexy. I’ll feel super fantastic. I’ll feel in control of my life.” Yay!! Terrific. Those are all wonderful feelings.

So, shall I share with you the secret to successful weight loss? I’ve lived it, and so are my clients. It’s why I’ve been named “Best of Bellevue” two years running for Weight Loss and Control Programs. OK, you twisted my arm. 🙂 My clients, and people in general believe that you FIRST have to achieve the goal to feel the satisfaction and other good feelings of achieving the goal. Wrong!

Here’s the secret. The simplest weight loss tip of all: Feel good first! Then your body changes.

So simple. So elegant. So powerful. You adopt the good feelings that the successful completion of your goal will bring you, and you enjoy those good feeling in the now. That changes everything. When you change how you feel, you change how you think, and you change your behaviors. All these positive, good-feeling changes lead to changes in habits, and ultimately changes in the size, and shape of your body.

If you’re feeling energetic, sexy, and healthy, do you want that cupcake? The cupcake doesn’t bring you happy. You’re already happy. Goodbye, emotional eating (a huge problem for a majority of people with weight issues).

My teacher, Dr. Richard Bandler, put it succinctly. “Good feelings. Good decisions. Bad feelings. Bad decisions.” That is so right on! So, what I do with weight loss clients is attach them to the good feelings now. Their own healthy decisions roll from there.

Here’s where hypnosis and Neuro Linguistic Programming (a conversational hypnosis) are powerful helpers. These are methodologies which make it so quick and easy to create useful states of mind and body at will. Emotional states or feelings such as happy, healthy, accomplishment, control. We create them, and we attach them to situations where they become useful. That’s what I do. I custom design and blend new appropriate feelings the way you might have a shade of paint for your living room custom blended. I create shades of emotion that are desirable and useful. And then I paint your life with them.

So, yes, this works for weight loss. And so much more. Say you have an unwanted state of mind and body called fear. A phobia. If the phobia was gone how would you be feeling? Calm, safe, clear minded, and free. Ok. Voila. We create calm, safe, clear minded, and free. And using various creative processes we attach that to the context which used to contain fear. Fear evaporates.

Hypnosis is good stuff. As always, you can learn more about these tools at http://www.mindworkshypnosis.net.

Warm Regards,
Connie

Learn to Relaaaaax, with Mindworks Hypnosis

Hello, Hypnosis Friends!

Kickin’ back!  Relaxation.  Calm.  Enjoyment.  This is a good thing.  It’s good for the body to take a break from stress.  Hypnosis is the ultimate relaxation maker.

Stress is a killer, we all know that.  High blood pressure, ulcers, twitching, sleep issues, it can manifest in a number of ways.  Stress also leads to unwanted habits…like overeating, like smoking.  Some degree of stress is essential, helps you move through the world and be productive.  Too much stress, immobilizing.  Forgetaboutit.

And you can.  Hypnosis and NLP are amazing tools for stress-busting.  What would it be like if you had an “anchor” for calm?   An instant trigger?   If you could, by thinking a thought, or creating an image in your mind, or touching a place on your hand–notice an immediate and deep calm enter your body?  What if you could easily overwhelm and transform stress out of your body?   Would that be of interest to you?

Stress and calm/relaxed don’t live together.  They’re mutually exclusive.  Your body and mind can’t do both at the same time.  When there is a choice available, they choose calm.  Add a new choice!

I successfully create these relaxation triggers for people every day.  What would it be like to take control of your emotions and feel calm and relaxed anytime you want to?  Work would be a lot easier, wouldn’t it?  Dealing with that boss-from-hell and that annoying coworker would be easier, wouldn’t it?  Seattle traffic would be a lot easier to bear, wouldn’t it?  Relationships would improve, wouldn’t they?  When family members try to push your buttons, you push your own.  Ahhhhhhhh!  Calm flows.  Stress related habits would vanish, wouldn’t they?

Learn more here:  http://www.seattlehypnosisforstress.com/   I’d love to help you with this!  Call me:  (425) 564-8608.

Fear of Public Speaking – A Fear Greater than Death – Or…Learn to Reach for that Microphone Like it was a Long Lost Lover

End fear of public speaking with Mindworks Hypnosis

I help people with all kinds of apprehensions and fears and phobias.  Off-the-wall fears as well as common ones.  I’ve helped people with every fear under the sun.  The most common one?  Fear of public speaking.  It ranks right up there with the fear of death.

This fear can manifest in a number of ways:  intense anxiety prior to, or simply at the thought of having to verbally communicate with any group, avoidance of events which focus the group’s attention on the individual, physical distress, nausea, feelings of panic, and so forth.

It doesn’t have to be this way.  Hypnosis works for ending your fear of public speaking.  NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) works for ending your fear of public speaking.  I utilize both methodologies, melding them into a powerhouse kit and kaboodle of change.  Here is a client testimonial I have received after our work on this issue:

“Amazing progress! I gave a presentation 2 weeks ago, and wasn’t nervous …immediately felt a wave of calm come over me. I presented well and the audience and other speaker responded well to me, so I know it was successful.!” –Beth, Bellevue, WA

For Beth, it was a matter of business necessity and success.  If public speaking and presenting is on your job description and you currently suffer from fear, I can help you end that fear and present well.  REALLY well.  Comfortably.  Confidently.  Articulately.  Easily.  And have FUN doing so.

As always, I do offer a free consult to explain more about the tools I use and my “gameplan” of client-centered Neuro Linguistic Hypnotherapy.  Call me if you’d like to grab that microphone like it was a long lost lover and feel absolutely comfortable with public speaking.  (425) 564-8608.  Mindworks Hypnosis & NLP.

Fear of Germs and Fear of Vomit Vanish with Mindworks Hypnosis of Seattle.

End fear with Seattle’s most skilled Hypnosis & NLP – Mindworks Hypnosis

Hi, Guys!

I’ve been working with children lately.  It’s good to fix a problem early in life, rather than suffer for decades.  I wish I had known about NLP® in my early life, it would have spared me decades of fear.  I had arachnophobia.  Fear of Spiders.  Until I didn’t.  NLP® fixed that problem in my life six years ago.

Here’s a report from the mom of an 11 year old girl who had obsessive fear and panic around vomit and germs.  I worked with the girl recently.

“Hi Connie, Today I went to pick her up at school and she was all smiles.  She said that a friend of hers threw up and she was ok. She touched the “magic spot” on her hand and that completely calmed her down. She said that she was more worried for her friend than for herself.  This is a big milestone for her and you can see it just by looking at her today: pure happiness.  Thanks again.”  F.T.,  Bellevue, WA.

Yay!  That’s what I like to hear.  “Pure happiness.”

By the way, the “magic spot” is an NLP® anchor we created and set for her, so that the girl can feel how she wants to feel instead of fear.  Children love magic buttons.  I have a few myself.  🙂

What are you or your loved ones afraid of?  Choose something else.  Called “not fear.”  With a suitably skilled NLP® person, guess what?  It’s easy.  Michael and I are Licensed Trainers of NLP®.

You can end fear now.  Call for your free consultation to learn more:  (425) 564-8608.  http://www.seattlehypnosisforphobias.com

The Snowball Effect – Positive Changes Grow with Mindworks Hypnosis

Hi, Hypno-Friends!

“My life has improved across the board!”  Michael has received a wonderful testimonial of his clinical changework utilizing Neuro Linguistic Programming.  Watch this video.  It’s longer than most, because Margot here has a LOT to say about how her life is noticeably improving.

Michael worked with this lady, and helped her with a fear of travel, and also turned “boring moments” of her life into excitement.  Boring is an attitude, a state of mind.  Change your mind and you change your life.  Michael helped her to recognize life as an exciting adventure.  And it is, for her, more and more.  Listen!  Watch!

Margot has noticed improvements in public speaking, comfort, teaching, socializing, work, travel.  Life is fun (and exciting) again.  Suddenly, adventures materialize to meet the expectations — life has a way of doing that!!  Margot here is more open to opportunities, now she NOTICES them, and that gives her more.  Nudges towards adventure.  She’s been acting on them.  Yay, Margot!

When you make positive changes in your life, many things are touched and improve as well.  NLP is a powerhouse avenue to positive changes.  It’s been described as “hypnosis on steroids.”  Yes, it is.  Look at this lady’s life transformation–spoken in her own words, after a few minutes of changework with Michael.

I have a friend who says:  “If it’s true, it ain’t bragging.”  I’m not bragging when I say Michael and I are GOOD at what we do.  Very, very good.

Michael is also available (as am I) for client sessions.  Call us:  (425) 564-8608 and discover the most effective hypnotherapy in the Seattle area and beyond.  No brag.  Just fact.  🙂  Ask Margot.

Why, Why, WHY, is the Wall Painted Green?

“Why” is not useful information.

Hello, Hypnosis-Friends!

Michael and I often are called upon to explain NLP Neuro Linguistic Programming and hypnosis to people who don’t really know what those things are.  They have murky and mistaken ideas, sometimes fueled by “Hollyweird” and sometimes fueled by our culture’s seeming fondness for ridiculous beliefs like “change is difficult and slow.”

No, it’s not.  Change is instant.  The build up to the decision to change might be slow.  Change itself is FAST.  And easy, especially with the tools I have up my sleeve.

Here’s one of the most prevalent false ideas I encounter.  People think they have to know “why” a problem exists in order to change it.  WRONG!  That’s an idea created and endorsed by “talk therapists” (nothing like what I do) who want to milk a client for repeated sessions continuing over months and years sometimes decades with little to no progress.  My work is fast.  As in, hours to positive changes.  Let me repeat that.  Not years, HOURS.  Sometimes, minutes.  🙂

Hypnosis and NLP are what are known as “brief therapies.”  And it’s not talk therapy, it’s not about the “why?”  We figure out “how” you do it (it being a problem) and change that, so you don’t do it.  Easy!

Color your life the way you want with hypnosis.Michael has created a lovely metaphor to explain this idea of NLP vs. Talk Therapies.  Imagine you’ve bought a new home.  (I just did!)  Imagine one of the rooms is painted a hideous color –a foul yellowy-green.  Yick!!  Ok, you now own this home.  The bedroom is painted green.  You hate the color.  You want it to be different.  You’ve decided you want it to be blue.  What do you do?

Do you sit and wring your hands endlessly and cry “I don’t understand!” and speculate on WHY is that wall green?  “Why, why, why?”  What were they thinking?  What is the cause of that choice?  Or do you simply get out the bucket of blue paint and the brush and get to work making it different?  With NLP, we get out the bucket of paint.  And we paint, making the room what we want it to be.

Now, the wall is successfully blue.  Do we care WHY it was ever green?  No.  Not me.  I don’t care!  It’s not green any more.  And we never even needed to figure out why.  If we HAD figured out why, would that spontaneously turn the wall blue?  Of course not.  Knowing why doesn’t fix things.  Fixing things fixes things.

As I expressed it to a potential client.  This is not a quest for understanding.  This a quest for change.  As in NOW.  NLP and hypnosis are movement, not chitchat.  I lay down the ground rules for my clients…if you stray into story about why, that is not useful information to my work, and I’ll stop you.  And I do.  This isn’t talk therapy.  This is life change.  Now.

Learn more about what I do here:  http://www.mindworkshypnosis.net/ and http://www.seattlenlptraining.com/.  If you’re tired of talk and want to DO something to make your life better, then you’re ready for my brand of therapy.  Hypnosis and NLP.  The change-makers.

Warm Regards,
Connie

A Little Boy Had Fear – And Now He Doesn’t

Erase fear with NLP.

It’s not been frequent, but I do work with children as well as adults.  Children are VERY responsive to Neuro Linguistic Programming and hypnosis.  I’ve worked with as young as six years old.

What’s needed is an ability to focus/engage/play through the processes with me.  I had a wonderful little 8-year old boy like that the other day.  He came in with a terror of elevators.  Not just a fear.  A wide-eyed terror.  He had learned it.  We proceeded to unlearn it.

I did my thing with him, Neuro Linguistic Programming, primarily.  We created new feelings and new pictures and new sounds in his mind around elevators.  Better ones.  We did some hypnosis as well, with imagery to create security and a sense of well being.

Success!

I like to test my work, always.  Immediately in the real world, when possible.  My office building has a small elevator.  (And smaller elevators had been even more terrifying to my client.)  The boy, his mom, and I rode the elevator that day.  Suddenly, an elevator was an amusement ride, something FUN to do.  He wanted to push the buttons.  He rode down, he rode up.  Feeling happy.  Feeling good.  “Mom, let’s do it again!”  We rode down and up again.

As they left my office I heard him saying to his mother, “I want to ride the elevator!!  Can I push the buttons?”  Fear is gone.

A side personal note:  I have relatives that are very very successful in the realm of retail stores.  They sell pretty things to people who have a lot of money.  That’s nice.  By anyone’s standards looking at them, they are success and wealth personified.  One of those relatives made a comment yesterday suggesting that the work I do is insignificant.

I think what I do is infinitely more important and more valuable.  A little boy had fear.  And now he doesn’t.  I believe that transformation is worth more than all the tea in China.

Warm Regards,
Connie

Find Your Power

Learn from the best.
We learned from the best.

Hi, Hypno-Friends!  I’m sharing a “musing” today.

My teacher, Dr. Richard Bandler, in addition to being mega-uber famous, is a nice guy.  Very nice guy.  After conducting intensive seminars, he also makes time to make himself available for his students.  He’ll answer questions people are too reticent to ask in class, he’ll pose for photographs, and he’ll autograph any of his dozens of published books.  I did all of those things with him, including asking him to sign a copy of one of his books for me, “Frogs Into Princes.”

He kindly did.  He wrote in my book, “Connie, find your power.”

I was and am thrilled.  “Find your power.”  Dr. Bandler gave me a direct suggestion.  Yay!  I’m doing it.  I made a photocopy of that page, cut out that sentence in Dr. Bandler’s distinctive writing and stuck it under my acrylic desk blotter at Mindworks Hypnosis & NLP.  I look at it every day, and I remember to continue to find my power more and more.

Dr. Bandler IS NLP, he is co-inventor of it, and named it.   What is NLP?  Neuro Linguistic Programming is the study of successful thinking, it is a type of conversational hypnosis that creates positive changes fast faster fastest.  It’s been called “hypnosis on steroids.”  I live it.  I love it!  I use it.  I teach it.   It’s the basis of my personal success, as well as all the positive changes my clients have enjoyed, and the clients of my students as well.

“Find your power.”

I use social media, primarily FaceBook, not as a search engine optimization gimmick (as some local hypnotists do) but because I think it’s fun and a wonderful way to share and connect.   I mentioned on FaceBook about Dr. Bandler’s directive sitting under my desk blotter.   Someone posted in reply criticizing Dr. Bandler–thinking it was a negative comment about me.  “Why?   Is it lost?  That implies you don’t have power.”

If someone says to you “find your keys,” does that imply you don’t have keys?  No, it means you have them and you want to get them in your hand so you can use them to turn on the car and get going!  I think “find your power” means connect with your power, grow your power, and the premise there is, you have power.  I know I do.  I know we all do.

One of the presuppositions of NLP is that we, every one of us, do indeed have infinite resourcefulness and power.  Everything we need is already inside us to create change in ways that we find useful.  NLP, it’s a methodology of continued empowerment.  If you don’t like where you’re at, you choose and do something else!

Thank you, Dr. Bandler.  “Find your power.”  It’s an ongoing joy-filled process, and I’m working on it!

Warm Regards,
Connie

The Art of Successful Thinking – That’s NLP

Yesterday I was talking to someone who didn’t have a clue what hypnosis is or NLP is (Neuro-Linguistic Programming ™) or what hypnotherapy is or even a very positive view of the human mind and human capabilities.  They said they thought I help “losers who need their hand held while they whine.”  Uh, no.  Gutter ball!

#1.  There are no “losers,” there are people who feel stuck because they perceive limited choices in certain contexts.  #2.  This isn’t about story telling or hand-holding, it’s about life change and behavioral change.  NOW.

NLP is my primary tool. It’s the study of successful thinking.  How successful people do what they do, dissecting their UN-conscious strategies that lead to desired outcomes.  We ALL can create new strategies that lead to success, and change our behaviors, our thinking, our lives.  We all can model excellence.  An easy way to do this is through hypnosis and NLP.

Hypnosis is simply a method of accessing more or your own mind’s power and creativity and flexibility.  When there’s a “problem,” there’s a strategy that needs tweaking that is essentially a lack of choice.  See cigarette, I must smoke.  Lack of choice.  Smell baking cookie, I must eat it.  Lack of choice.   See a spider, scream and run.  Lack of choice.

Hypnosis offers new unconscious choices, that supplant the old ones, that are more desired and lead to success.

That’s it, in a nutshell.  Hypnosis.  It’s a success builder.  And you define the success that you’re seeking.

I love what I do, and I love when someone begins to realize that they have more choices and can create their own life the way they want it.  And, they do it!  That’s when they write me the testimonials I have on my web pages.

Here’s a simple NLP thought process that can bring a new state of mind to a problem state of mind.  It involves the power of a few simple words to change how you’re thinking, and ultimately, what you do in the world.  The magic of “yet.”  That’s a  wonderful word.  So small, and so powerful.  What does it mean?  Take the following sentences in bold font and consider them fully.

I can’t do X.  (X being stop smoking, or lose weight, or release fear or any statement of a limitation…)  “I can’t.”  Full stop.  End of story. Nothing is beyond that conclusion.
It’s a stopper thought.  And it leads to a myriad of negative emotions. Hopelessness, overwhelm, sad.

I can’t do X, yet.  The assumption, the implication here is that I will be able to do X at some time.  Eventually, I will X.  This little word “yet” opens doors to new possibilities, learning, and movement forward.  And what is the feeling with this?  Positive, motivated, optimistic.  I can’t do X yet.  But I will!

The second response to a limiting statement of “I can’t” is “What would it be like if you could?” Answer the question.  Think about it.  Seriously. Pretend it’s possible.  This drives the mind in a new direction, creating images and thoughts and feelings of
success.  What you focus on expands.  Now your mind is prompted to move in the
direction of what you do in fact want, not dwelling within the limitation of “I can’t.”  With this new focus, behavioral nudges and opportunities to move toward that goal just seem to appear.  And you’re doing what you couldn’t do before.  You hadn’t created the right
state of mind and body for it.  Yet!

To learn more about NLP for personal development, check out our one day seminar happening on Saturday,  2/4/12. http://www.seattlenlptraining.com.

I’m hoping for you a limitless 2012.  Make it so!

The Extinction of Fear

Hello!

I’m helping a client who has a phobia:  fear of dinosaurs. That’s a new one!  And it’s also proof positive that these fears are irrational and cannot be solved consciously.  How many dinos is she likely to run into on a daily basis that it should be a continuing terror in her life?

They’re extinct!  Let’s make the fear be extinct.  I know how!  Got to get into the unconscious mind to solve these things! 🙂

Fear can be attached to anything, and can be unattached in a heartbeat.  That’s the power of Neuro Linguistic Programming.  NLP.  I know it’s true!  I’ve lived the difference from fear to calm–I had a phobia that lasted decades.  Spiders.  Panic and hysteria and adrenalin and screaming.  After 15 minutes of NLP performed 5 years ago, “poof!”  No more fear.  I like to give clients proof, known in the trade as “convincers.”  Well, my neurology of fascinated clear-minded CALM while standing next to a spider nowadays, it’s a good convincer for me!

It’s  cool to help people with these things, and I’ve worked with pretty much
everything under the sun.  Or so I  thought.  Dinosaurs is a new one.  Beyond the common fears, fear of public speaking, fear of heights, fear of flying, fear of driving, fear of spiders and snakes, fear of elevators, fear of the dentist, I’ve helped people with fears of overripe bananas, record stores, the wind (seeing movement in trees led to
panic), the color red, bridges, sleep, and more.  But Dinos!  As I said, that’s a new one.
We’ll make short work of that fear!

Fear  can be useful, when it’s appropriate.  Historically,  when the saber toothed tiger showed up at the cave, it was a good response to  run away.  If man had walked the earth at  the same era as dinosaurs, it would have been useful to run away then, too,
only we didn’t.

What  are you afraid of that you don’t need to be afraid of?  I can help.   Call me and I’ll be happy to make your fear extinct!  Connie and Michael @ (425) 564-8608.  http://www.seattlehypnosisforphobias.com/ and http://www.mindworkshypnosis.net

Fear of Driving Left at the Curb

Hi, Guys!

I love happy news.  Not that it’s any surprise to me, but I like to receive confirmation in “the real world” of the success of the work we do.  Joy Epstein of Sun City, Arizona, had a terrible fear of driving–to the point that she had not driven a car in years.  She knew how, and had driven earlier in her life, but had severe panic attacks and could not get behind the wheel and could not drive.  Until she could–with Mindworks Hypnosis.  Which was actually amazingly quick.  (That’s what NLP does for you.)  At the conclusion of the first session with me, when her husband came to pick her up, she got behind the wheel and drove home!  Yay!

People ask me all the time:  do the changes stick?  Of course they do.  When you update a program in your mind, you’ve got a new program running and the old one is transformed.  My spider phobia has never come back, and it’s been 5 years now.  It’s not going to.  I worked with Joy on her driving fear last summer, and here’s the current report:

“I have been able to drive without a panic attack. I drove with my husband on local freeways. I was also able to help him drive from Bellevue to Arizona, which was a dream of mine, and he was so happy and grateful to have a break from driving! You really changed my life, and “thank you” does not seem enough to say.   It was truly wonderful meeting you. I have bragged about you – in the best possible way – to some people here in the neighborhood – so much so, that you may get new clients who fly to Bellevue to meet with you! You are an awesome Neuro-Linguistic Hypnotherapist…thank you for helping me.  — Joy Epstein, Sun City, Arizona”

What are you afraid of?  When you decide it’s time to ditch that fear, toss it to the curb, I can help.  Call me to learn more about my Neuro-Linguistic Hypnotherapy services and arrange for an in-person free consult.  Call Connie at (425) 564-8608.

November Freebie: Here’s an NLP Technique for Procrastination-Busting. Play with it!

Hi, Hypnosis and NLP-interested People!

Happy Autumn!  I love this time of year.  Crispy!  Fresh.  A time for changes.  Here’s a really easy, fun, fast, and amazingly powerful technique to create change–as it’s used here, a tool to combat procrastination.

Books and mountains of words of advice have been written about procrastination, that inertia that says: “Do it later.” We all know that feeling. It’s something we want to do–sort of, but are just NOT doing. Something stops us. And that something is unknown, unseen, but we feel it. Looking at that sink of dirty dishes, I know the feeling.

I get a lot of clients who express that feeling as well. They want to exercise. They just don’t. They want to start a business. They just don’t. They want to create something, write something, learn something, organize something, clean something, DO something. They just don’t. Excuses miraculously appear that “justify” delay, with an inner thought: “I’ll do it later, I’ll do it tomorrow.”   Tomorrow, the same “put it off” feeling is in place, and more excuses appear.  Is this a familiar pattern to any of you?

Any activity can elicit procrastination feelings. Some people’s joy and positive desire and “I can’t wait, I can’t wait!” is another person’s “I don’t want to. Maybe tomorrow.” Manana!

What if it were easy to change this? What if it were easy to attach a feeling of motivation, passion, joy or even just “routine” to what we want to do? It is. I like the idea of shift to routine. If something is routine, we just do it. Because we do. No thought required. No struggle.

Here’s a simple yet powerful Neuro-Linguistic Programming ™ technique to do just that. It’s officially called a “visual sub-modality shift.” Michael calls it “Magic in action.” I call it “fun!” I’m going to walk you through a process to turn an activity that you’re procrastinating on into a routine activity you do easily.

What is routine to you? We’re all different. An example from my life is “brushing my teeth.” I do that every day. No ifs, ands, or buts. No struggle. No inner discussion. I just do it. It’s not a hardship. It’s routine. It might be something different for you. You get up and get dressed every day. Routine. Michael drinks coffee every day. Routine.  You check your email. You bathe. You comb your hair.

Pick an example in your life of a routine activity. Once you’ve settled on that, create an image in your mind that represents that activity. When you create a picture in your mind, the feeling attached (this is something I just do automatically) comes with it. Ok, got it? Good.

Now, what is an activity you’d like to become more routine? The thing you may be procrastinating on, perhaps like exercise. Make a picture in your mind that represents that. Just let it pop in. Got the second picture?  Good.

Now, I’ll walk you through the process.

First, study the picture of your routine activity. Notice all the photo-shop type qualities of the picture. Is it in color or black and white? Is it three-dimensional or flat like a photograph? Is there movement in the picture or is it still? How many images? Is it landscape mode, portrait mode, panoramic? How big is the picture. Is it life size? Poster size? Index card size? How far away from your mind’s eye is the picture?

We actually carry our inner pictures floating around us in space. Some are right in front of our face, some are at arm’s length, some are across the room, some are to the right of us, the left, above, below, behind, etc. Find the picture in space. Notice the clarity, focus, contrast, brightness, the saturation of color if there is color. Notice all those photo-shop type qualities.

Step two. Take the second picture, the procrastination one, and MATCH every quality to be the same as the qualities of the routine picture. We’re not talking content of the pictures here, we’re talking those qualities I’ve just mentioned. Brightness, location, size, clarity, color/no color, etc. Make your procrastination activity picture match in every way the routine picture.

Now, count to five.  Or, look out the window for a moment. Distract yourself. Think about something else. Just for a moment.

Now, think about the activity you had been procrastinating on…how do you feel about it now? Think about doing it right now or at your next reasonable available time. How do you feel? Are you making inner excuses not to do it or are you feeling more inclined to just do it?

If the change in feeling is pleasing to you, then, snap your fingers and tell yourself to keep the activity picture just like that–with the new qualities.

NLP is the real deal for life change.
NLP is the real deal for life change.

How we feel determines how we think, and what we do. This shift in feeling and thinking right now is going to lead to a shift in behaviors, what we actually DO in “the real world.” Prove it to yourself. Play with this and write to me with your success!

Enjoy your new-found power to get things done!

Allergy Relief in Action – “My Nose is Free!!”

Hi, Hypnosis Friends!

As well as “doing” this work to help people make healthy and positive changes in their lives in a clinical context, Michael and I also teach.  The school side of what we do is inform and prepare others, including other area hypnotherapists, in the processes and power of NLP and hypnosis.  This video, below, is part of a class demonstration last weekend of what is known as “The NLP Allery Relief Process.”  The video is not complete, but it’s a good chunk of the work.

The idea here is:  Allergies are learned responses which can be unlearned and new responses learned.  Robert Dilts, an NLP “big name” who created this process I am demonstrating, called allergies “phobias of the immune system.”  NLP fixes phobias.  NLP can fix allergies as well.  Quicker than you can imagine.

In this video, we are replacing the neurology of an allergic response Gaia had to drinking coffee (runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing, coughing–your typical too much histamine responses) with a neutral experience.  Drinking water.  She can do that.  No problemo!!  We take that as a resource for unconsciously learning a new response to coffee.

What if she could drink coffee (as she used to be able to do) as easily and as comfortably as drinking water?  She can.  She does.  Watch!  As I touch her hand (firing off the resourceful state into her neurology via what is called an “NLP anchor”) she is relearning coffee drinking comfort, as easy as drinking water.

I love me some NLP!  If you’d like to learn more about the magic in action of NLP, check out the school side of what we do:  http://www.seattlenlptraining.com.  Mindworks NLP is a fully licensed State private vocational school.

Warm Regards,
Connie

Aloha!

Hypnosis is as relaxing as Hawaii!
Hypnosis is as relaxing as Hawaii!

Aloha to my hypno-friends!  Michael and I took a rare vacation last week to somewhere I had never been:  Honululu, Hawaii.  Magical.  Lush.  Hypnotic.  Beautiful.  Water, water everywhere!

So relaxing!  Sitting on the beach, feeling the warmth, hearing the waves, just relaxing.  And, also in our case, sitting in a hot tub overlooking the ocean, bubbling away all cares and worries.  Deep relaxation.

You know what’s cool about a vacation?  You are accumulating experiences, wonderful states of mind and body that might be outside your repertoire of day to day hectic life.  And you know what else is cool?  You have continuing access to those experiences any time you want them.  And when you access them (that process has a fancy name:  it’s called memory), you get to live them all over again in your neurology, feel them all over again, in your body.  Relaxed lives in my memory of the hot tub afternoon in Waikiki.  Our minds and bodies are connected, really one cybernetic system.  You think about it, and you feel it.  Automatically.  Naturally.

That is the truth, and it’s also useful.  Because, with NLP and hypnosis, when you have a feeling you enjoy, you can capture it.  Bottle it, as it were.  And uncork that bottle at will, when it’s useful to have that feeling again.

This is called “anchoring,” and it’s the bread and butter of NLP, and hypnosis.  Finding useful states and bringing them into new situations where they help.  Where they change things.  Bringing calm into fear.  Goodbye fear.  Bringing energy into fatigue.  Goodbye fatigue.  Bringing creativity into stuck.  Goodbye stuck.  Bringing motivation into “I’ll do it later.”  Goodbye procrastination.  Bringing happy into depressed.  Goodbye depressed.  Sounds good, does it not?  And it’s SO EASY.  When the therapist has the artistry and skills to do the work well.  I do.

NLP is the real deal for life change.
NLP is the real deal for life change.

If you’re in a funk or stuck or sad or lazy or unmotivated — if you enjoy those states–revel in them!!  If you don’t enjoy those states, change them.  Skilled NLP makes it happen faster than anything else on this planet.  Find out.   Call me.  (425) 564-8608.  I’m Connie and I’m a Licensed Trainer of Neuro-Linguistic Programming ™ and that’s something very special.  There are only 38 Licensed Trainers of Neuro-Linguistic Programming in the entirety of the United States of America, and I’m one and my husband, Michael, is one.  Licensed through the co-originator of NLP, Dr. Richard Bandler.  I’ll change your state for you.   You want a taste of vacation level relaxed?  It’s in you, and we can access and also attach it to that stressful situation.  Goodbye stress.

If you love your stress, enjoy!  If you don’t, take a vacation from it.  Some people take permanent vacations.  It’s called retirement.  If you want to retire your stress and fear, and etc., let’s do it!

Warm Regards,
Connie

The Color of Happy

The color of your life should be happy.
The color of your life should be happy.

Hi, there!

My mom liked yellow.  Bright sunshine-y yellow.  She used it in her artist’s pallette, she decorated her home with it.  Our kitchen growing up–bright yellow.  Yellow curtains, yellow walls, yellow touches.  Warm.  Welcoming.  Love.  I like yellow, too.  🙂  She also liked rose color, and had in reality a pair of “rose colored glasses.”

When you think of happy, what color is it?  I like red.  Bright, vibrant, jewel tone red.  That’s excited and happy.

One of the things you learn in NLP, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, is that you can create more of what you want in your life and less of what you don’t want in your life by simply adjusting the representations of the world in your own mind.  Sounds easy.  (It is.)  Sounds simplistic.  (It is.)  But, guess what…it’s amazingly powerful and it works to make permanent and positive shifts in your life.  One of those possible adjustments in submodalities (as they’re called) of your internal representations is color.

When you identify a color that when you consider it, makes you feel happy, take that color and use it.  Use it like a wash of watercolor paint and splash it, overlay it on your internal visual of any situation that needs more happy in it.  If you have an internal picture which feels negative when you think of it, and the visual is dark, gloomy, full of rain clouds, pour in the sunshine.  If yellow is your happy color, fill the picture with a golden glow.  Imagine the light shifting in that image.  The quality of the light shifting.  The color shifting.  Your feelings shift as well.

Here’s another experiment!  🙂  If a problem is bright and vivid, take the color out of it.  Nullify it.  Take a tension headache.  Imagine a color for it.  Change the color.  Lessen its intensity.  Drain the color out of it.  Make it turn into opaque, crystalline, clear, fading, fading the color.  The discomfort fades, too.   Now, of course, I have to lay out a disclaimer.  I’m not medical and headaches may indicate a medical issue which may require medical treatment–see your doctor for headaches, especially if it’s unexplained, recurring or sustained.   But for a run of the mine head discomfort (I get that with caffeine withdrawal), play with the color experiment.

NLP is really amazing, and my clients are often amazed as well.  Their conscious minds are trying like mad to understand how it is that they feel so dramatically different (and better) so suddenly.  Improving confidence, reducing fear, reducing stress, removing cravings for nicotine and sugar and so on.  “How can it be so easy?”  It just is.  NLP has been called “hypnosis on steroids.”  Yes, it is.

If you want a taste of that, and help to add some new color to your life, call me.  It’s not just a new color, it’s new sound, feeling, taste, smell, and pictures.  It’s a new creation–called your life how you want it.  Better than Burger King’s “have it your way.”  You can, you know, have it your way.  Your life, that is.

Warm Regards,
Connie

PS:  That beautiful watercolor artwork there was painted by my mother, artist Francine Porad.  🙂

Drive Your Own Bus

NLP is the real deal for life change.
NLP is the real deal for life change.

Hi, Hypno-Friends, Enthusiasts, & Interested Parties!

There’s still a few seats available for Michael’s and my “Power of Mind” Workshop we’re offering.  It’s happening this Saturday, July 16.  More info:

https://mindworkshypnosis.net/hypnotizer/?p=1578

and http://www.seattlenlptraining.com

It’s a driving school.  Not about motor vehicles.  It’s about LIVES.  Your life! About running your life the way you want.  Taking control.  The King of NLP, and my teacher, Dr. Richard Bandler, calls learning and using NLP “Driving your own bus.”  Yes, I do.  Perhaps, you want to, too! 🙂

This powerful seminar/workshop focuses on using NLP for self development and life success.  NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) can be described as an amalgam of linguistics and hypnosis, and is based on the study of human excellence.  If it weren’t already taken, the slogan for NLP could be:  “Be all that you can be.”  Yes, you can.  We’ll help you, as you learn and experience powerful subconscious communication tools and techniques you can use immediately to increase personal satisfaction, self confidence, influence and power.  Eliminate undesirable habits!  Program in more useful ones.  Control your emotional states and more!

It’s not fluff.  It’s not hype.  It’s REAL.  The testimonials on my website (and there are dozens upon dozens) are because I incorporate NLP into my therapy work.  In one of the video testimonials we received, a woman says:  “Everyone should be required to learn this (NLP) at an early age.  It would make the world such a better place.”  I absolutely agree.

If you want in for a one-day workshop showcasing NLP and more about hypnosis in general, too…join us!  Remember that old airline slogan, “We love to fly, and it shows.”  Well, We love NLP, and it shows.

Warm Regards,
Connie & Michael

How Would You Rather Feel?

Dad and the fish
Dad and the Fish!

Hi, Hypno-Friends!

I have a photograph of my dad on my desk.  Here it is!  I’m sharing it.  This is my dad the day he caught a fish–and what a fish!– and won a salmon derby in Canada.  That’s a 70+ pound salmon!!  In my mind, it was the happiest moment of his life!

Now, of course I didn’t know my dad his ENTIRE life, I showed up when he was around 30.  But in my mind, it captures the essence of happy.  What do you think?  And, thanks to Kodak, it’s captured forever.  This moment in time.  Framed.  On my desk.  When I see it, I feel happy, too.

Kodak is cool.  Photography, allowing us to capture a moment in time visually, terrific.  Well, we have something inside us that does even more than that.  We have a wonderful ability to not just capture but recreate a moment in time as well.  It’s called “memory.”  And it’s not just visual.  Not just a picture.  It’s got the vibrancy of full-sensory LIFE.  Re-LIVING.  Our memories capture all of it, sensory rich full-bodied experiences, with movement, scent, taste, breath, energy, sound, emotion, thought, etc.  It’s all in there.  Captured in our minds and in our memories.

Guess what?  This is useful!!

Thoughts are attached to feelings.  Memory is attached to all of it.  If my dad were still alive, and I asked him to remember that moment,  that day he caught “the fish” (as it’s known in family lore), he would re-experience all that emotion you see in the picture in his body now.  Just as vividly and richly.  He would “get happy.”  Guess what?  This is useful!  🙂

Our unconscious minds (accessible more than we know) have stored the experience.  We can capture it again via memory and use it NOW.

One of the things I do for clients is create good feelings and capture them for specific contexts.  In a problem situation, I ask them:  “How would you rather feel?”  We can do that.  Capture and bring those good feelings to where they are useful.  If it’s fear, bring calm.  You can’t have both, fear and calm operating in your body at the same time.  If it’s tension, bring relaxed.  You can’t have both, tense and relaxed at the same time.  If it’s sad, bring some happy.  You can’t be both, sad and happy at the same time.  As the old song goes:  something’s gotta give!  It’s the negative, unwanted feeling which goes.  And the positive, desired feeling which stays.

That’s NLP.  Simple processes which make that happen.  So fast!

And when you change how you feel, you change how you think, and you change what you do.

Have you ever made soup “from scratch?”  Adding  and blending spices and seasonings, salt, pepper, oregano, what have you, and tasting, adding a little more of this, and tasting, a little more of that, and tasting, until it’s JUST RIGHT.  Alchemy happens, the flavors meld and merge in the pot into something brand new, something perfectly delicious.  Well, we can do the same thing with feelings.  Create new ones.  Good ones.

I do this with clients!  I’m a master chef and my spices are feelings, and I custom blend new, useful feelings for clients, feelings that advance them in new directions.  We even give these new feelings new names.  I’m often amused with the names my clients create for them.  Two recent examples:  girl’s resourceful new feeling a few days ago was called “Yay, me!” and man’s yesterday was “Quiet confidence with a smile.” I like both of those!!

What’s really useful is bringing these designer, resourceful feelings into life to change things.  That’s NLP.

It’s a simple process and enormously powerful.  To feel good, I mean.

Finding out how to feel good in ways and places you want to feel good is really, really easy.  Call me.

An NLP “Anchor” In Action!

Hi, Hypno-Friends!

This is a VERY cute video.  It’s not just an adorable baby laughing as Dad tears up his job rejection letter…it’s more than that.  It’s an accurate and amazing illustration of ANCHORING.

I talk about anchors, and I use anchors all the time in my work.  It’s an NLP term.  (Neuro-Linguistic Programming, a high tech hypnosis.)  In this video, every time the baby hears/sees the paper rip, he immediately laughs uproariously.  EVERY TIME.  Stimulus, response.  Stimulus, response.  Same stimulus, same response.  Over and over and over again.    Simply explained, an anchor is an unconscious association that’s been created, a link-up in the brain.  This means that, this leads to that.  When it rains, I feel sad.  When I see a spider, I recoil in fear.  When I see a stop sign, my foot moves off the gas pedal.  When I smell chocolate brownies, I remember my mother.  Anchors!

Now, laughter is a wonderful thing to anchor.  Keep it!  When a response is less than desired, however, that’s where NLP comes in.  We can change our anchors.  Absolutely easily!  I worked with a gentleman with a debilitating fear of heights this past week.   That fear response, it was simply a learned response, an anchor.  I’m in a high place, and that means PANIC!  (Not anymore, after working with me!  Now it means calm, comfortable, confident, and clear-minded.)  What we do in NLP work, we help people break out of these unconscious patterns and install new anchors, for better and more resourceful responses.

People think they’re stuck.  They’re trapped.  They’re not.  NLP creates anchors, good ones, and replaces the non-useful ones.  I’d be happy to show you how.  As a client:  http://www.mindworkshypnosis.net or as a student:  http://www.seattlenlptraining.com.

NLP Explained – What is Neuro-Linguistic Programming and how will it help me change my life? (Easily!)

Here’s another video! (I’m just a video makin’ machine today!!) 🙂

To experience life change with this methodology:

To learn this life-changing methodology:
http://www.seattlenlptraining.com

NLP is a conversational, high-tech hypnosis…the most powerful change tool on earth.  It’s also been called “hypnosis on steroids.”  Absolutely.  This is the primary thing which has reshaped by body (minus 75+ pounds) and my life.  Do you think I’d have been comfortable and confident enough before NLP to make a video such as the above and chat to the world?  No way, Jose.  Do you think I’d be running my own businesses?  Perhaps, but I doubt as successfully.

NLP is a set of tools for life success.  This is what sets me above other hypnotherapists’ level of success–my NLP.  There are Practitioners of NLP, there are Master Practitioners of NLP, and beyond that level of skill, there are Trainers of NLP.   I’m a Licensed Trainer of NLP ™.  And, when you come to my office, what you’re going to receive is neuro-linguistic hypnotherapy.  In my estimation, the power of this blend and the postive changes achieved through this exceeds anything else I’ve ever heard of or experienced on earth.  I’d love it if you’d let me prove it to you.

Warm Regards,
Connie

Put a New Frame on it!

A problem is simply a frame of mind, a way of looking at things.  If it’s not a problem to YOU, it’s not a problem.  Think about flying on an airplane.  After all the hustle/bustle of travel arrangements, packing, airports, and etc. when I get on a plane, I settle into the seat and go:  “ahhhhhhhhh.”  Now it’s time to relax.  No worries.   All I have to do is sit here and enjoy myself.  Perhaps for someone else sitting down a few rows,  it’s churning turmoil inside, it’s white-knuckle time.  It’s visions of disaster.  It doesn’t have to be.  You can change your mind.  And experience life differently.  Yes, about flying, and pretty much about ANYTHING!  That’s what hypnosis can do!  It’s called “reframing.”

Perhaps you’re skeptical about those statements.   Here’s a few recent examples of reframing from my life, for further illustration.

I got caught up in the shopping frenzy last week.  My husband and I were at the mall, and I found a shirt I loved.  The color in particular was appealing to me.  Hypnotists have an “inside joke” about the color purple being hypnotic, because one of the most famous and successful hypnotists in the world, Milton Erickson, was fond of wearing bright purple jumpsuits.  Color analysis books describe purple as the dreamer color.

I found a purple shirt.  Not just any old purple, this was a rich, deep royal purple, a magically hypnotic jewel-tone purple.  I was excited to find it, and on sale!  🙂  As I was checking out at the department store, the clerk commented on the “grape” shirt.  Grape?  Yikes.  I almost put it back.  I don’t want a grape shirt, as that sounds utterly unappealing.  Purple, yes.  Grape, forget about it!  One word flipped my state of mind about the shirt, and not in a good way.  She reframed my shirt (negatively) and almost lost the sale.  This is something we teach in our NLP for Sales courses, how to reframe in a way that sells, not creates aversion.

Here’s another example of reframing.  This is a sign.

Crosswalk Sign

Perhaps you’re familiar with it.  It indicates a pedestrian crosswalk.  It’s a stylized guy crossing the street.  You can see that.

Here is a sign I saw today in a parking garage.

Pedestrian Crossing

They’ve shifted the sign slightly, and the meaning massively.  What it thinks it’s saying is “pedestrian crossing,” but what I see is a pedestrian falling, and flying through the air, obviously after being struck by a moving vehicle.  Yikes, again!  A different angle on the picture, and the whole meaning changes.  That’s reframing.

Here’s a classic example of reframing.  Imagine a roaring fire in a fireplace.  That elicits positive feelings, right?  Cozy, nice, warm.  Now, expand the picture’s parameter, and you see the house is on fire as well.  Oh, no, run for your lives!  Negative feelings.  Now expand the picture further and you see it’s all a movie set and they’re only filming a controlled reproduction of a house fire.  Positive feelings, again.  A shift of frame changes everything.

What makes this “reframing” process cool of course is changing things that are problems in your life to non-problems.  Like the fear of flying.  What if your experience of planes and flight became a frame of relaxation, like lounging on a tropical beach or sitting in your easy chair at home?  Hypnosis can do that.

Big secret:   How we feel and how we respond to things and the thoughts/frames we create around them:  it’s all moveable furniture.  Within our control.  If you want to rearrange your mental furniture in a way that creates more beauty and ease  and success in your life, I can help.  That is my gig.  My passion.  My joy.  Come see me and we’ll reframe those problems out of existence.

Warm Regards,
Connie

A Touch of Calm!

Hi, Hypno-Friends!

I hope you’re having some happy holidays, and more to come!  Wishing you and yours a fun and glorious 2011.  Resolve to enjoy life more and more every day.  I’m about to share with you all a simple technique that is the backbone and my favorite “magic” of NLP–something which drives home like a jackhammer the idea that you control your own life, mind and body.   Specifically, I’m going to share with you a touch of calm, for the holidays!

NLPLOGONLP is Neuro-Linguistic Programming ™, a term coined by my teacher, Dr. Richard Bandler.  It’s a way of understanding the world and how we create reality.  And can change it.  It’s about enhancing communication, inside ourselves and with others.  For more info on what it is and the myriad of powerful and wonderful uses of NLP, you can check out my primary NLP website:  http://www.seattlenlptraining.com.

How would you like to communicate to your own mind:  “It’s time to relax!”  And have it actually happen in your body in an instant?  (Your wish is my command!)  Wouldn’t that be especially useful this time of year, with all the turbulence of wild weather, traffic, ice, work demands, family and extended family, parties, gift shopping, holidays, STRESS?

Here it is!  It’s called an “anchor” in NLP parlance.  It’s a stimulus-response mechanism, which we can capture and activate at will.  With intention.  So many times we are stimulated to a response (one we don’t particularly want or enjoy) by living and events.  Examples:  Your significant other starts using THAT critical tone of voice, and your body temperature rises.  You see a chocolate bar and the cravings kick in.  You smell popcorn, and you know you NEED a bucket.  How nice to create a stimulus-response in ourselves that we like.  And use it for…A Touch of Calm.  Apply as needed.

Here’s a technique for you.

Begin to remember a time in your life when you felt calm.  I mean REALLY calm.  Relaxed, with clarity of mind.  In that precise moment of time, nothing could ruffle your feathers.  Pick a memory from anywhere and anytime in your life, in any context, from childhood,  to adulthood.  In the hot tub, snuggled in bed, on the beach in Hawaii, in hypnotic trance, jogging, it doesn’t matter.  Let your mind remember CALM.  Now, put  yourself inside that memory, that experience.  Be there now!

Experience it.  What’s going on?  How do you feel?  What do you see?  What do you hear?  What do you smell?  Involve all your senses, fully and completely.  Let calm grow in you.  Feel  calm moving in your body.  Flow it, grow it.  Stronger.  When calm is just about at its peak, and you’re feeling really good, touch the tips of your thumb and ring finger of your left hand together and hold for one second.  Let go.  Think about something else for a moment or two, some neutral thing, and then imagine yourself again inside the calm memory.  Feel it.  Breathe it.  Once again, flow calm through every nerve and fiber of your body.  When you feel good and calm, touch the thumb and fingertip again.  Hold for a second, and let go.  This unique touch is now associated (anchored) with calm.  This touch will elicit calm!  In your body.  Forever.  Just that fast, you’ve trained your mind/body to do that!  How cool is that?  This is why Michael and I call NLP “The Magic of Instant Change.”

Now, whenever you want a dose of calm to flood your body, touch that same thumb and finger together and hold it (for a minute or so) in the way you’ve just anchored, and feel calm return.  Automatically!  Feeling stressed by Aunt Sue’s conversation at the party?  Touch and hold.  🙂  Stuck in mall traffic and beginning to grit your teeth?  Touch and hold.  Standing in an endless line at the supermarket and feeling irritated?  Touch and hold.  Joe at work pushing your buttons?  Push your own.  You now are armed with “a touch of calm” for the holidays.  And any time.  Enjoy!

Warm Regards,

Connie

The Cup of Many Handles – or, Change is Easy

Connie Brannan, Seattle's best hypnosis.
Connie Brannan, Licensed Trainer of NLP (tm)

A lot of people have questions about NLP.  “What’s THAT?”  They come to me for hypnosis, but rarely have heard of NLP.  Neuro-Linguistic Programming ™.  It’s a “high tech hypnosis,” according to my teacher and the inventor of those three letters, Dr. Richard Bandler.  Michael and I are both Licensed Trainers of NLP, and it’s a part of everything I do hypnotically with clients in the same way  that green is a part of grass.  I don’t offer a brown, dried lawn, with some patches of green, maybe.  My lawn is LUSH and alive and vibrant green.

NLP, Neuro-Linguistic Programming ™ is a way of looking at the world.  A very useful, empowering way.  It’s about how people think, how the mind works, and how change happens.  About the very experience of life.  How we create our personal worlds.   And how we can easily create new worlds for ourselves, to be more the way we want them and less the way we don’t want them to be–mentally, physically, behaviorally, emotionally, spiritually.  I love NLP more than anything else I’ve ever learned in my life.

NLP is based on our sensory experience of the world.  We see through our eyes, and we also create pictures in our mind’s eye.  We hear through our ears, and we create sound bites and audio loops and talk to ourselves in our mind’s ear.  We physically touch things with our fingers and bodies, a table, a piece of fabric, and experience smooth, rough, texture, warmth, and so on.  And we create feelings inside ourselves.  Love, joy, fear.  We can stick something in our mouth and taste it, and we can remember and relive tastes in our memory.  We can smell something under our nose, and we can re-create smells in our mind’s nose.

My Nana made the BEST chocolate cake.  I can taste it right now–in my imagination.  🙂  And smell it.  And see Nana’s kitchen, and her face and her voice while offering it to me, and get a warm feeling of love from it.  All at the same time.  Memories are multi-sensual.

Here’s the secret of life and what NLP has discovered:  those representations that we create in our minds, the pictures, sounds we play, etc. ARE our experience of life.  They drive us.  They are us.  If we change the pictures and sounds, etc, we are changing our experience of life itself.  We are changing our lives!  Changing habits, thoughts, behaviors, bodies.  And more!  This idea creates an absolutely magical control that you can take over your life to get the life you want.  NLP does that!

Regarding the multi-sensual nature of memory and experience, here’s how I describe some of my NLP work to clients.  I say:  imagine a cup filled with coffee.  A nice ceramic Starbucks coffee cup.  (I show them the very one sitting on my desk for ease of illustration.)  It’s got a handle.  Yes, it does.  You pick it up by the handle.  You’re holding the cup.  Now, imagine that cup has several handles, protruding in different directions all around the sides of the cup.  You could grab any of those handles.  And you’ve still got a hold of the cup.  You can raise it in the air.  You can wave it around.  You can drink from it.  (Yay!)  🙂

It doesn’t matter which handle as they all are attached.  Those handles are pieces of our representations of experience.   One handle is images in the mind.  One handle is sound bites.  One handle is feelings.  We have extra handles there for stuff we don’t even understand, yet.  Like the 6th sense.   Or energy.  There’s an awful lot going on in a moment of life and in a memory, some things we perceive, some we don’t, but we are grabbing ahold of IT by any handle.  Grabbing ahold of life!

If you come into my office wanting help with an irrational fear of spiders, for example, I may help you via helping you adjust pictures, sounds, feelings, tastes, smells.  I’ll grab a handle of the problem.  Maybe it’s a picture.  And we’ve got the fear.  And we can tweak it out of existence by tweaking the picture.  Maybe in your mind’s eye a spider is 10 feet tall, and 3 inches from your face.  (That would frighten anyone!)  If we take that picture and shrink it down to tiny, and push it off into the distance, the fear shrinks, too.  We tweak the pictures you make in your own brain, the sounds, the smells, and so on to help you re-create your experience of life.  Cool, huh?  It works!!  You can change your world.  Absolutely, positively magic.  NLP.

If you want to experience some of this magic, you know how.  Call me and come on into my office.  If you want to LEARN this magic, I can help you there, too.  http://www.seattlenlptraining.com.  Michael and I are damn good at this stuff, because we love it.   And have trained with the best.  Now, with all this talk of coffee cups, I need to go drink some!  🙂  Bye for now.

Warm Regards,
Connie

Super Secret NLP Habit-Busting Technique

Hello, Hypnotic Friends!

The topic today is habits — habitual behaviors that we engage in almost without thinking.  Learned behaviors which now flow.  Too easily, sometimes.  Sometimes habits are good.  Like bathing.  Like using deodorant.  Like brushing your teeth.

Like looking both ways before crossing the street.  Sometimes habits are bad.  Say, smoking.  Or a “cookie addiction.”  Or any other kind of addiction, sex, alcohol, spending, gambling, and so on.  Or any number of other unhealthy or unwanted or self destructive behaviors, which lead to an outcome we’d rather not come out to.  🙂
Actually, those words, bad and good habits, are misleading.  There are NO good habits and there are no bad habits.  I use those words for convenience and understanding because they’re out there in the vernacular, out there in common usage.  The truth is, there are only useful habits and non-useful habits.
Cool thing is, we get to decide what that is.  If a habit is useful, go with it.  Enjoy.  Live.  Love.  Be happy.  If a habit, however, is not useful, or no longer useful, we can identify that, know that, and change it!  Here’s another one of those self-empowering ideas.  We can change our habits.  Yes, we can.  We are not victims in this life–we make the rules.  You and me.  We can get into the habit of breaking habits, when it’s useful to do so.  And I’m going to lead you through a simple process in this essay to do just that!
We’ll take a “simple” unwanted behavior.  How about something from my own life.  Sugar?  Bakery goods?  Brownies?  Hmmm, I know–candy.  Chocolate.  Hershey bars.

I used to have a habit.  It was called “eat candy bars.”  Anytime, all the time, just about every day or so.  Primarily, Hershey’s with almonds.  I’d get the little bars, and I’d also get those giant sized bars, 8 oz, which I think nowadays cost more and are 4 oz.  Still called “giant” sized, however.  I guess it’s all in your perspective.  And I’d eat the whole thing–eventually.  In a day or two.  And then I’d buy more.  Bad habit, right?  Maybe, maybe not.  I’m sure the Hershey company, and the Nestle company, and the M&M Mars company, thought it was a GREAT habit, and loved me for it.  But for ME, I decided that it was not useful.  I decided to shift that habit, as it became a non-useful habit when I decided to get healthy and consume less calories and less sugar and transform my body.
I decided!  Eating candy bars:  non useful habit.  Let’s change it!
Here’s a simple NLP process to do just that.  NLP, again, is Neuro-Linguistic Programming ™ which is a “high tech hypnosis.”  It’s also been called, aptly, “hypnosis on steroids.”  I love my NLP, as taught to me by the Master of Masters, the creator, Dr. Richard Bandler.  He taught me, and I’m teaching you.  Here and now.  Behold!  A habit-busting technique that is so simple and straightforward, perhaps it will become a new habit of yours to use it.  And bust any non utilitarian habits.  Until they invent a Bad-habit-be-gone-spray-in-a-can, this is the next best thing.  Psssssst.
But, before I get into the process, one more story.  I went to a “weight loss hypnosis” talk the other day and it involved imagining bugs/maggots/disgusting vermin crawling on my donut to get me to change my behavior as regards donuts.  This is NOTHING like that.  I find THAT suggestion disgusting, the idea that we need to get uncomfortable about things in order to change.  False!  That’s ill-formed and wrong-directional.  You don’t need to do that.  Thing is, you may want to enjoy a donut or piece of donut sometime in your life.  I don’t believe in taking that opportunity away, or making people feel sick!!  We’re not attaching negativity to the thing, which decreases or limits your choices, we’re enlarging your choices so that it’s easier to choose healthy and useful habits.
Ok.  The chocolate bar.  I used to be able to put myself into a state of desire.  Wanting it.  Which then led to buying and eating it.  Create a picture in your mind that represents a negative habit and your wanting to do it.
We all have desires all the time that we don’t act on.  I had a co-worker once who would have benefited by a slap upside the head.  I wanted to do that, on occasion.  Did I?  No.  Never.
Sometimes I have a desire to stay in bed beyond an appropriate time.  Do I?  No.  I get up.  Sometimes, a scene in a movie is so absurd I want to shout something derogatory out at the screen in the theater.  Do I?  No.  Sometimes, I see a good looking stranger at the gym, and I feel like running up and squeezing his bicep…do I?  No.  We all have desires which we know perfectly well we will not act on.  Create a picture in your mind that represents a temptation or desired behavior that you KNOW you will not act on.
Notice everything about that picture–the thing you will not do, the line in the sand as it were.  You won’t cross it.  You know you won’t do this thing, even though you’d like to.  As you study the picture, notice it’s size, shape, location, color or black and white, movement, focus, brightness, clarity, everything.  Memorize those qualities of the picture.  Qualities of the picture are like the options in a photo editing software.  You’re not looking at the content in any way, you’re noticing the qualities such as focus and color.
Now, take the picture of the unwanted behavior, and match it to those qualities of the “won’t do it” picture.  Every one!  Size, color, focus, etc.  And stick this picture right in the space of the “won’t do it” picture, like two pieces of music on a music stand.  Imagine yourself not doing this thing, and the positive outcomes flowing from that change.  In my case, not eating the candy leads to a smaller body, more energy, more money in my pocket, and feeling good!  Lock in the picture of the unwanted behavior into the “won’t do it” position.  Click your teeth, or snap your fingers, or say “that’s right” and tell your mind to keep it there.  Sometimes I imagine splashing a bucket of shellac over the top of the picture as a sealant for the new qualities.
Top secret NLP insight:  When you change how you represent a situation or problem in your mind, the situation changes!  Read that sentence again.  Let it seep in.
Now, step back and think of yourself and the unwanted behavior.  In this case, you may notice that the temptation to do the thing that USED to be a bad habit has shifted, into something you simply won’t do.  Not a struggle.  Simply a sense of No!  I won’t do that.  Freedom!  You speak the holy word (for Star Trek officiandos, name that episode!).
Play with this and let me know how you do!  And, as always, if you’d like to learn more cool NLP techniques and processes, here’s how:  http://www.seattlenlptraining.com.  In fact, Michael and I have three 1-day seminars next month, which is a fabulous introduction to the power of NLP.  One seminar focuses on life change, one on sales and business success, and one on self hypnosis.  C’mon down and learn more.  You know you want to!

Fear not

www.mindworkshypnosis.net to end fearHi, guys!

Lately, I’ve been thinking about fear.  And how unneccessary it is.  To feel it.  I had a spider phobia for a LONG time, long long long time.  Decades.  (I don’t really want to advertise how old I am, but I know precisely when and where I learned to be afraid of spiders–I was grade school age, probably around 7, at the bus stop on Mercer Island, off of 72nd street–while talking to a girl named Paige.)  It was a one-shot learning.  And, as I discovered a few years ago,  it can be unlearned just as quickly.

I was telling a story to Paige.  Not a nice story.  It was about spiders.  I was trying to scare HER.  With words.  And somehow, I scared myself so thoroughly and horrifically, that it STUCK.  I suppose that’s justice!  I was terrified of spiders for more than 30 years.  Seeing a spider would set me OFF–body recoiling, heart pounding, adrenalin pumping, an involuntary gasp or scream or two, and so on.  But not only that–I lived “on alert” for spiders.  Anytime I would enter a room, any room, but primarily bathrooms, I’d scan, the floor, the walls, the crevices, looking for danger.  Looking for spiders.   Any spider, regardless of size, would set off the same phobic response in me, even microscopic spiders.  If I’d see a speck or dot across the room on the wall, I’d have to wonder and worry:  “Is that a spider?”

I had what my hubby came to call “bug radar.”  If a spider was anywhere near, I’d know it.  And, freak out!

To lessen the tension of this horrific story about how I was tortured for decades with fear–let me tell a more pleasant spider anecdote!  When I first started dating my future hubby, I had an apartment.  He had an apartment.  Neither of us had cars.  One night, I was getting ready for bed, and found–horrors!!–a spider in my bathtub.  What to do?  I could not, no way, no how, just go to bed knowing a spider was around.  Nor could I touch it, or go near it.  I was distraught.  I called Michael.  That sweet man took a city bus across town (probably more than 1 bus) to come save me that night.  When he did that, I knew it was LOVE!   Then and there I decided to keep him, forever, and I am.  29 years and counting!!  🙂

So, anyway, everyone knew about my spider “thing” and some people laughed at me about it.  Like my mother.  We went camping and a spider was crawling up her leg at one point in one of those open-air-bathrooms in the woods.  She laughed, thinking how I would scream.  Yes, I would have.  I didn’t see or know any way out of this FEAR.  Yes, I knew it was unreasonable, spiders are tiny, I wasn’t, and yes, I could stomp the living daylights out of them, but that did not lessen the FEAR.  The panic response in my body.  The conscious mind wasn’t in charge of this thing.

NLPLOGO
Seal of the Society of Neuro-Linguistic Programming TM (your seal of the best).

Until 4 years ago.  I learned NLP.  And NLP can crush the daylights out of fear.  Quicker than you can imagine.  See, when you learn something, you’ve got a pattern running in you.  Mine was spider:  shriek!  spider:  recoil!  spider:  fear!  All three of those things together.  Well, NLP broke the pattern.  In about 15 minutes, conversationally, I learned something new, a new pattern.  A pattern called:  spider:  feel calm!  spider:  feel neutral!  spider:  feel clear-minded!  And that new pattern has been running for 4 years in me.  I’m not afraid anymore.

Of course, I was super skeptical—how could something that’s been such a terror to me just vanish?  Well, it did, and how I KNEW, how I came to believe was the next time I came face to face with a spider.  Nothing.  No reaction in my body.  I felt so amazingly free.  Calm gives me the clarity to see if the spider is actually a threat or not.  Some spiders ARE dangerous.  It’s miraculous, actually.  That’s what NLP is and does:  miracles on demand.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming ™.  Neuro meaning the neurology in your body, how you feel and function.  Linguistic meaning communications, spoken, unspoken, language, etc.  Programming to me means change.  Changing how you feel in your body via communication.  My spider fear was changed to my spider calm.  Neutral.  An absense of any negative feelings.  How wonderful.

NLP is miraculous on phobias.  Every kind.  It’s all just unconscious associations, stimulus response patterns which  get learned/installed.  I can help you learn something better, and more resourceful.  Because I’ve learned NLP.

I’ve worked with a wide variety of fears and anxieties with my clients, from claustrophobia, to fear of flying, to fear of public speaking, to fear of records stores, to fear of deep water, to fear of the wind, fear of heights, fear of spiders, and so on… with GREAT success.  NLP works!  Hypnosis works.  Together, they really, really work.

I declare 2010 the “free from fear” year.  I want to help people release fear.  Sometimes fear makes sense and is appropriate, but when it isn’t–let me help!  I’d love to.  And I know it works.  Every time I come face to face with a spider–a rare thing now–I know it.

I saw a spider on the floor of my bathroom about a month ago, sitting by the edge of some pants that I had thrown on the floor (don’t tell anybody), and it didn’t bother me at all.  Before, it would have been a FREAK OUT DELUXE that a spider might get into my clothes…here it was live and let live.  I didn’t care enough about the spider to even DO anything about it.  It was there for several days, sitting in the corner, and I noticed it calmly and ignored it. That’s freedom.

If you’ve got an irrational fear, think about this: How would you rather feel?  The tools I know can get you there, into that new feeling.  Rapido!

Warm Regards,
Connie

Confidence Booster – Michael’s Tirade

Connie Brannan, CHt., Master Hypnotist
Connie Brannan, CHt., Master Hypnotist

Hi, again!  The other day my husband and fellow hypnotist, Michael, was reading the Sunday paper. He likes to do that! 🙂 In particular, he was reading Parade Magazine, one of the little inserts next to the grocery ads, coupons, and TV schedule. Under “Healthystyle Cheat Sheet” they had a little article called: “Two-Second Confidence Booster.” Basically, it was about a study and “growing research” that “found” that your body position affects your mood. Specifically, that sitting up straight can affect confidence.

Well, duh!

Michael was irritated that this was being presented as something new and groundbreaking. It’s not! This is something NLP, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, has known and advanced upon a hundred-thousand-fold over the past several DECADES, how the mind and body are linked and processes to change how you feel, how you think, how you act. I said: wow, talk about just the tip of the iceberg, that this little article shows just a tiny, tiny, miniscule understanding of our power for change and presents it as something so exciting and “new!” Michael said: it’s NOT even the tip of the iceberg. It’s less than that!

Our conclusion: more people need to know about NLP!!!

In the 70’s, NLP founder (and our teacher!) Dr. Richard Bandler developed an entire methodology that allows people to control their own lives, in his words: “get through it, get over it, get to it!” Motivation. Healing past hurts, letting go of fears and limiting beliefs, changing your current state of mind and life, and so much more, through such easy yet powerful techniques. As Richard also says: With NLP you are learning to “Drive your own bus.” I love me some Richard Bandler. He’s the KING! He’s licensed us to teach these materials, which we do through our school in the Seattle area: Mindworks NLP. If you’d like to know more about that, call me or look here:  http://www.seattlenlptraining.com.

NLP is hypnosis on steroids!

Connie and Michael with the KING, Dr. Richard Bandler.
Connie and Michael with the KING, Dr. Richard Bandler.

Michael and I are going to go study further with Dr. Bandler in Orlando, Florida in a few months! Yay!!

I use a blend of NLP and hypnosis in my therapy practice. Like chocolate and peanut butter! Two great things that go great together! I think it’s super powerful this blend of hypnosis and NLP, and my initial certification is as a “Neuro-Linguistic Hypnotherapist.” I love these tools for change. And there’s a hell of a lot more power to it than “sit up straight!”

Mirror Box

I was watching TV the other night–I don’t watch much at all anymore–but I still like “House,” that medical drama.  Melodrama, really.  Quite a bizarre, yet entertaining show!  The episode the other night featured a “Mirror Box.”
A Mirror Box is a real thing.  It’s very cool, and it’s something I was trained in the use of just a couple months ago.  See the pic.  I was at an Advanced Mastery NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) training.
The box is used to help people with phantom limb pain.  Through accident or disease or what have you, the person has lost a limb.  Yet it still hurts.  Sometimes incapacitatingly. This technique relieves that pain.  It also helps restore mobility in limbs to stroke patients.
Now, “House” is a strange show as I said, and as a character, he shows a very eccentric and non-nurturing approach to medicine.  On the show, House kidnaps and basically tortures someone to “help” him with the mirror box and phantom limb pain.
In spite of this, I’m pleased that the “mirror box” got featured on the show.  Shows how change takes no time at all–with an understanding of how the mind works!

Warm Regards,
Connie
