Seattle Area Clinical Neuro-Linguistic Hypnotherapist & Licensed Trainer of NLP ™ shares the truth about hypnosis, NLP and the unconscious mind to create powerful, positive, and lasting life changes. Mindworks Hypnosis & NLP
With hypnosis and NLP Neuro Linguistic Programming, we can program in new responses in any given situation. The boss is yelling, traffic is congested, your significant other is in a bad mood, the restaurant is out of just the thing you wanted. They call it “situational stress.” What if, after hypnotherapy…that same situation became situational calm, or situaltional happy, or situational “I can handle it!” We can do that!
I think this video is cute. And it demonstrates an important fact. We can change our emotions on a dime. FAST!
Cute baby! She’s crying, looking like a full-blown tantrum is going to ensue. Then, suddenly, she hears her happy music. And the dancing begins! Instant change. For those of you who think “change is slow and difficult,” watch her face. We’re talking instant change!
With NLP, and Neuro Linguistic hypnosis therapy, we give you control, to turn a negative emotion and response into a positive one. When you choose to do it. We can also program your mind and life for those responses to become automated in a particular context. This little girl has been programmed in a natural manner, in a great way. Music = dancing and happy. It doesn’t matter what was going on before.
We can take control of these automatic responses. Goodbye, fear, anxiety, phobic responses, distraction, procrastination, and so on.

Michelle Ganey, of Buckley, WA is loving her new found diet success secret: it’s hypnosis!
Battling menopause and the weight gain at that time had been a struggle for Michelle. No more. She’s changed her eating habits, as quickly as flipping a light switch. And the result is, she’s lost her first 7 pounds in about a week. How did she do that?
Skilled hypnotherapy and NLP, Neuro-Linguistic Programming.
Here’s what Michelle has to say about working with Mindworks Hypnosis & NLP, and this jump start to her success:
When you discover hypnosis for yourself and the awesome power it can unleash, you’ll be impressed, too. Call anytime to learn more. We do offer a free in office in person consultation. Because of the myths and misunderstandings of hypnosis floating around in the world, some people are skeptical and don’t really understand it’s power. Until they do. The proof is in the pudding. Always.
M.L.J, of Seattle came into Mindworks Hypnosis for NLP services and hypnotherapy for the purpose of anxiety and stress release, both in the work setting and in her personal relationships. She was skeptical. At first. And yet she was open to go for it. Now she knows something different, and that difference is success in her goal, the absence of stress.
Here’s her short and sweet report after NLP and hypnosis:
“Although I was skeptical at first it really did help. I haven’t felt stressed at all.” — M.L.J., Seattle, WA
Think about the power of that change. “I haven’t felt stressed. AT ALL.” Good job, M!
When people are caught up in stress, they don’t see the world or themselves clearly. I helped another gentleman with anxiety just yesterday in Bellevue, and here is what he told me he noticed immediately afterward.
He commented that not only did he feel different (calm, safe, and confident), the world looked different to him. Literally. Colors brighter, more present in the moment and noticing the things around him more. He said he looked at his face in the mirror and that he looked different to himself, more good looking.
Wow! That’s success. Now all he has to do is hold onto those good feelings. And I gave him a tool to do so and taught him how to use it. That’s NLP — a supercharged, powerful and quick hypnosis.
If only more people knew the truth about hypnosis. It’s something so positive and so powerful, and so COOL. And so helpful.
Mindworks Hypnosis – Best Greater Seattle Hypnotherapy
Check out this hypnotic time-lapse video I’ve created. It’s a typical Seattle May day…murky, gray, overcast, dark. At first. Then, miraculously, things shift. The clouds blow away, and are replaced with dazzling blue skies and brilliant sunshine. What a beautiful Seattle day. Hypnotic!
And what a great metaphor. This is the essence of hypnosis and hypnotherapy and NLP. Change. And, as this video shows, change is easy! Troubles and problems and old habits can “blow away” as though they never even existed. We don’t need ’em, we can get rid of them. Easily! That’s the secret and unknown part. Hypnosis is the tool to make it happen.
Hypnosis and NLP are really user guides for the mind.
I hope you enjoy this amazing video. I love it, if I do say so myself. These scenes are three different views of the same day, from atop our own Space Needle – the heart of Seattle. My favorite part is when the shadow of the Space Needle moves and elongates across the city. We are so privileged to live in the Greater Seattle area, there’s nowhere as beautiful on earth.
Change your direction any time, with Mindworks Hypnosis.
Hi, Seattle Hypnosis Friends!
The power of your mind is so incredible! Here’s a quick and easy demo proving change is easy.
I invite you to check out this brief video. Is the train moving to the left into the tunnel, or to the right, emerging from if? What do you see? Cool! Now, simply imagine that it’s moving in the opposite direction. And it does!!
Some people call this “freaky.” I call it: “control.” We control our perceptions of the world with our mind. And yes, it really is that easy to alter direction. When your mind makes the leap, you see things in a new way. And new seeing leads to new thoughts, and new beliefs, and new behaviors. That’s the purpose of skilled hypnotherapy–assisting you in the new seeing.
I love these type of visual demos. People start to “get it.” That what happens between their ears is the real deal, and the real power. If you’d like to see yourself or life in a new way, and live those changes, we can do that. My hypnosis clinic services all the Greater Seattle area. Call me anytime at (425) 564-8608 and we’ll get started!
I’ve had a lot of clients over the years, and I’ve helped with every variety of context and situation of desired change from weight loss to anxiety release to help with addictions, to sports improvement, to quitting smoking, and more. Some clients stick out as memorable, because of their willingness to “go for it” and cooperation, some for their incredible successes. Karel was both of those things.
Karel shared her thoughts about our work on Google with a 5-star review of Mindworks Hypnosis & NLP:
“Connie Brannan has helped me change the way I think about myself and my life. I saw her primarily for help with weight loss, but I ended up realizing many other positive changes at the same time. I was surprised and so pleased with the lasting results of my sessions: ability to concentrate on the way I wanted to eat, improvement in my personal relationships, and a completely rejuvenated interest in life.
After 20+ years of severe depression, I was amazed to find that I was free of it after just a single session. I am so grateful that I had the good sense to see Connie, and I recommend her services to anyone who wants similar improvements in their life.” – Karel Creason, Bellevue, WA.
And she wrote to me a few years later, offering this follow-up.
“Hello, Connie, I want to give you an update on the changes in my life since I saw you in February 2012. I have continued to benefit from my freedom from depression…
I also have been able to handle a number of emotionally difficult situations which, in the past, would have had me reeling. What a great improvement. I no longer become paralyzed with grief, fear, or anger when I learn of family illness, marital problems, self-esteem issues, etc.
These changes are because you told my subconscious what to do to make me live the way I want to. I have always held to your phrase that if something I think or believe isn’t useful in my life, get rid of it. What a concept!
In addition to letting you know how I’m doing myself, I wanted to let you know that I referred 2 of my friends to you, and they both have reported great happiness with what you did for them. ” — Karel Creason , Bellevue, WA
Yay, Karel. Keep living your life on your own terms, with joy and a sense of your own power to make life better.
This sentence of Karel’s sums up the power of creative, skilled NLP and hypnosis: “After 20+ years of severe depression, I was amazed to find that I was free of it after just a single session.” We ALL have this kind of transformational power residing in our unconscious minds–it’s merely a matter of effective and persuasive communications. That’s what skilled hypnosis is, opening up the door and engaging in effective communications with the unconscious mind, and offering up new choices, stimulating new habits and patterns of living.
As I said to Karel and I often say to clients when I’m happy with the shifts happening: “High five to the unconscious mind!”
I’ve added another article that I’ve written to our Mindworks Hypnosis & NLP website. I invite you to check it out, and several other articles I’ve written and share there. I explain some of the unique tools and processes I utilize in my work for greater client success levels. Because, as we all know, the proof of a service well done is in the pudding. It’s in my client successes out in the world after going for it with me in my Bellevue hypnosis clinic. Here’s the article:
Many years ago, when I worked as an Office Manager for a building services company, I had a great boss. He taught me a lot about successful business including the concept: “give them an extra piece of chicken.” Give your clients more than they expect, give them something above and beyond the services they’ve contracted for. In addition to office cleaning, he might offer to shampoo carpet for the suite, or have the exterior windows cleaned at no additional charge.
An extra piece of chicken. I have built that idea into my Neuro-Linguistic Hypnotherapy clinical work as well. I give clients something extra, beyond what they came if for. I give them a gift called: self control. Or, in other words, control of self. Control of state of mind and body, control of your responses, control of your experience of LIFE! I call it: The keys to the Kingdom.
If you can control how you feel, you control how you will respond and interact in any given moment. If you can control how you feel, you can control the very thoughts that run in your mind. You begin to think differently about yourself! You create new, empowered beliefs. You move from an “I can’t” mentality to an empowered place called Choice. Rather than a cork bobbing on the emotional life of the sea, you’re at the wheel, driving the powerboat on a course you set. Full speed ahead!
And I give this power to clients to take home with them beyond our work in the office. It’s called an “NLP Anchor.” Using “Designer Feelings™” we create a desired state of mind and body and belief. It’s unique for the person, purpose and goals at hand, whether it be as an antidote to anxiety, fear, laziness, smoking, overeating, distraction, etc. We work to automate the changes inside the mind, so they become the automatic new feeling in the contexts under discussion, and the automatic new thinking and new behaviors.
AND we give ongoing self control, as our extra piece of chicken.
What is an anchor? It’s a physiological stimulus-response we set up in the body/mind. Think: light switch. On! Activated, It quickly brings about the desired and designed feelings into the body. How cool is that? And you control this switch. That mechanism can be set up as a touch, or a phrase spoken, an image conjured in the mind, a gesture. I’ve had clients call it “my calm button,” “my confidence trigger,” my “go for it,” a little girl called it “my happy magic finger trick.,” It’s not magic, it’s one technique among many in NLP. And it’s amazingly powerful to all who experience it.
Here’s an example: a person might come in for hypnosis services to address stress eating. We create the antidote to stress. Perhaps it’s a feeling blended of calm, confident, and happy. We automate new unconscious responses that replace stress and replace stress eating. Goodbye, stress eating, and goodbye to overweight! Goal met, happy client!
However, this new feeling, this NLP anchor, has a greater utility than just food. Perhaps there are other times and places where calm, confident and happy might be useful to our hypothetical client. Perhaps giving a presentation at work. Great! Perhaps for golf excellence. Great! With the anchor, a person has control. And can initiate the good feelings, anytime, anywhere. Power. Almost every client that leaves my office is given a custom designed anchor and instructions in how to use and activate!
As I said: the keys to the Kingdom. This is beyond price. Because these anchors last forever, with the proper use. And I explain the proper use.
NLP done right, it’s beyond awesome. What’s sad about NLP Neuro-Linguistic Programming is that so few people understand what it truly is, and how to use it–including people who purport to offer it therapeutically, and even those who teach it. NLP done poorly from a place of only partial understanding may still have some utility, but not much.
Perhaps it’s like the difference between a genuine diamond and a “faux diamonelle.” There’s high quality “real deal” product and there’s cheaper, inferior, imitation product. I offer the real deal, as a Licensed Trainer of NLP® through the Society of NLP® — I’m taught and certifed by the originator of NLP, Dr. Richard Bandler.
Feeling is believing, and we’ve developed and trademarked the ultimate great “Designer Feelings™ process.” Designer Feelings™ are available only at our hypnosis clinic, Mindworks Hypnosis & NLP. They activate automatically in the contexts desired, and are forevermore available to you as a source of self control. Call us at (425) 564-8608 and find out more anytime!
Who knew? Al is expressing here the very idea that makes hypnosis & NLP powerful and successful. And I KNOW he’s right and that those words are true: “Imagination is more powerful than knowledge.”
Here’s an example of how I know: When I had a spider phobia, I had all the knowledge in the world as to when and where and why and how that fear of spiders got installed in me–it happened one spring day at the elementary bus stop on Mercer Island talking to a girl named Paige. That knowledge did nothing to alleviate the ongoing fear. The extremely unpleasant and inconvenient panic responses in me lasted for decades!!! Until that amazing and fortuitous day in 2006 when Hypnosis & NLP got rid of my fear. In about 15 minutes. Wow. I’m still living that success now, since skepticism got tossed out the window. I know how I feel and I know how I’m living. Free from spider fear. Yay!
These tools called hypnosis & NLP, when wielded skillfully and creatively, help create new worlds–the ones we want for ourselves. We create them in our minds first, then in the world. Imagination is key. And yes, you have it. It’s called your creative unconscious mind. We tap into that problem-solving and happy-choosing ability that you have.
Mindworks Hypnosis & NLP has been operating successfully in the Seattle area for 8+ years now–growing our success, one mind at a time. There’s a reason we have over 160 joy-filled testimonials on our website. We understand the connection between imagination and action. And we can activate that change in you! Anytime you like!
Here’s a story to share with you, all about the hypnotic power of a half-eaten rotten banana.
I was working with a Seattle man the other day on quitting smoking. One of the elements of this work is our search for a useful feeling called “hell, no!” This gentleman, his “Hell, no!” was the thought of eating a rotten banana–he declared it the worst disgust feeling he could conjure. Coincidence, and propinquity! I had a half eaten well-past-its-prime squishy black banana in my trash can at the office at that very moment. I fished it out and we gave him several good whiffs, while I used my hypnotic tool kit to set that disgust equal to smoking. He’s done with cigarettes. Cravings are dead.
Long live the rotten banana! And long live the happy and healthy nonsmoker.
At the same time, and on the flip side of the coin, we also customized some powerful, good Designer Feelings™ in place of smoking, and attached those to undo the habit. Wonderful feelings that encourage healthy: calm, contentment, in control, and so on. Just as what generates disgust is unique person to person, so, too are the good feelings which can kick smoking desire to the curb. We explore and generate both in our Greater Seattle hypnotherapy center.
There’s a science and methodology to Neuro Linguistic hypnotherapy blended with fun and creativity, and, guess what? It works! For quitting smoking, as well as a variety of other positive changes. Are you ready to quit smoking? Let’s do it! Call me and let’s get started.
I’m always pleased when a client is so happy with my work that he/she agrees to comment publicly on the power of hypnotherapy and NLP done right. Here’s a video testimonial of success from a recent client, Pam Parsons, of Issaquah, WA. She reports that anxiety is “Totally gone.” Yay!
Pam decided to feel differently, and move ahead in life. She chose to feel: “calm, confident, worthy, driven, and courageous.” The tools and techniques I use helped her to do just that. We create new Designer Feelings™, and replace the unwanted feelings, and automate that process for the future, which we call Designer Beliefs ™. Powerful stuff! Fabulous stuff. Life-changing stuff. Pam knows.
A man I met recently asked me a question. He said, at the end of your life, are you going to be able to say with authority and truth that you lived the life you wanted? That you mattered, that you made a positive difference in the world, that you loved fully, that you lived fully? I know my answer is going to be: YES! I love helping people, and I’m doing it. I’m living my passion. I’m also happy that I’m helping other people to have a more wonderful life and be able to answer that question themselves in the affirmative, too.
If you’re ready for change, give me a call anytime to find out more.
I woke up this morning with a hypnosis thought running through my mind. I thought I’d share it! 🙂
It’s not what you’re capable of, it’s what you’re doing.
Acorn Mode
There’s a world of difference between I want or even I can vs. I am doing it. We help you make the leap from intention to action. That’s the power of skilled hypnosis.
Tree in Bloom.
You know there’s a difference between who you are right now in the expressions of your life and who you desire to be. There’s some magic in that acorn, a tiny thing dreaming of greatness, and making it happen. Action, activation, that’s the difference.
There’s that same magic in you. That difference for our success is really just a quality of mind. Change yours any time, adopt a mindset customized for your success, and do the things you want to do for your life. We’ve all only got so many ticks of the clock in this world–make your life beautiful, successful, healthy, happy, and magical, starting now.
I consider myself one lucky person, because I get to pursue my passion–which is hypnosis and a high-tech hypnosis called NLP. NLP has been aptly described as “The Art & Science of Excellence.” Yes!

Today’s entry is written by Michael Brannan, my partner in business and life! This was part of a larger discussion on an international hypnosis and NLP Neuro Linguistic Programming forum board and I’m sharing it because it has so many wonder elements that explain the work we do.
The topic was breaking “addiction” via adopting a new state of mind–which Michael and I have been helping clients do successfully for years, whether that addiction was drugs, sugar, tobacco, gambling, pornography, etc. Michael says:
“Certainly, these drugs can alter brain chemistry; but, in fact, your own body is far more capable of changing your brain chemistry faster and more effectively than a drug. Your brain chemistry changes every time you go from thinking a happy thought to thinking an unhappy thought. Creativity is about going into the right state of mind.
Creativity is almost always the work of the unconscious mind. Insight, inspiration, innovative ways of looking at things are necessarily things that lie outside conscious control. We can, of course, consciously set the stage for the unconscious to engage in creative activity through conscious efforts at problem solving, game playing, looking at things from a different perspective, etc.
Even science is replete with anecdotes of discovery by something just popping into the mind from seemingly unrelated stimulus (witness the discovery of the double helix), or the use of imagination, witness Einstein imagining what it would be like to travel along with a light wave.
I know a hypnosis teacher who thought drugs were an answer to getting more creative faster. It’s not necessary. In a training I once attended, we did the “drug of choice” experiment–going into trance and reproducing the experience of having a drug. It’s safer, and legal, too!
What state do you want, and how can you tweak it to make it even more of what you want? Change your state and you will change your brain chemistry–no drugs needed.”
This is all true, and I agree with every word that Michael has written here. Changing your thinking changes your body chemistry, hence the “Neuro” (neurology) in Neuro Linguistic Programming. Any state of mind and body, including one of “addiction,” can be altered with these tools. And frequently is, in my office, just about every day. And when you change your brain chemistry (mood), you change your thinking, and also your behaviors. It’s all linked.
So, when a person feels stuck and says to himself or herself: “I’m not this (creative), or I’m not this (analytical), or I’m not this (motivated), or I’m not this (powerful)”, well, the truth is, yes, you are! And Michael and I have the tools to enact it.
This morning Linkedin told me that people were congratulating me on an event — my 8 years work anniversary. It’s nice to remember the things I had forgotten to notice. I began my business, Mindworks Hypnosis, in January, 2007. Eight years! Happy Anniversary to me.
When I discovered the helping power and the absolute creative joy of doing NLP, (Neuro Linguistic Programming) and Hypnotherapy, I quit my job as a Bookkeeper/Office Manager, created this business, and I’ve never looked back. Dozens of additional hypnosis and NLP trainings under the belt, three different offices and thousands of clients later, and I love this work more than ever. This has been the best eight years of my life!
I remember my first paying client, she was a girl named Heather who wanted to stop fingernail biting. She had one session with me, and she was successful. She was also my first testimonial, which is still on my website:, http://www.mindworkshypnosis.net:
“I had a manicure last night…I haven’t had a strong urge to bite my nails and I can’t exactly find the words but it is an amazing feeling. Thanks so much, Connie!” –Heather R., Seattle
When I started this job, I got some really bad business advice: To pretend I’m good at only one thing. To market myself as a “specialty.” To say I’m the hypnosis weight loss specialist. Or, I’m the hypnosis quit smoking specialist. I refused then and now to limit the power of what I do. My expertise is in facilitating change in unconscious strategies for behaviors and beliefs and states of mind and body in any realm of activity whatsoever.
In the eight years, I’ve successfully helped an amazing variety of clients, from weight loss, quit smoking, ending fear and anxieties, all the way to working with pro and Olympic athletes, clients with addictions (drugs, alcohol, gambling, sugar, and etc.). Helping kids with study skills, confidence, and self esteem, helping with physical and accelerated healing, helping stroke survivors with mental function, helping erase blocks to business success, improved sleeping, improved memory, improved intimacy, and so on. As we say at Mindworks Hypnosis & NLP, if the mind is involved in the activity (which is EVERYTHING), then hypnosis helps.
Lots of people in life are looking to “find their passion.” The thing they love doing and are good at, which utilizes and highlights their strengths. The thing that they would choose above all other careers. The thing that makes them smile in the morning, excited and happy to be going to work. I found mine, and this is it!
The work I do and teach in the Seattle area is hypnosis and NLP, Neuro Linguistic Programming — amazing methodologies for personal development and goal getting, goal achievement. Hypnosis and NLP are applicable and wonderful for so many varieties of change — from weight management to phobia fixes, to behavioral changes such as quit smoking and stop fingernail biting, to sports enhancement to improving relationships and communications, and pretty much any activity where your brain is involved. (ALL!)
In the realm of that last category, relationships and communications, I am offering a new course at Bellevue College this winter quarter. It’s called: NLP for Dating and Relating. NLP has been called “hypnosis on steroids.”
Here’s the course description for NLP for Dating and Relating:
Are you interested in dating or improving relationships with those around you? Effective communication can improve any relationship! You will learn how to build rapport and connect with people in the best way possible, both socially and in business contexts. Create states of mind and body in yourself (such as confidence and joy) that lead to effective communications. NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) is a methodology of effective communications, both on the conscious and unconscious level. Connie Brannan is a Licensed Trainer of NLP ®.
NLP for Dating and Relating
Item: W9509 Connie Brannan
7:00 PM – 9:00 PM North Campus Room: V1021
Sessions: 1 W Address: 14673 NE 29th Place Bellevue, WA 98007
3/18/2015 – 3/18/2015 Fee: $49.00
What is NLP? I talk about that here:
The course, a one night, 2-hour adventure, is all about building new states in ourselves that enhance communications, confidence, ease, flow of words, sharp-minded, humor, and so on. It’s also about understanding rapport (positive connections between people) and how to facilitate rapport.–PHYSICALLY. And verbally. It’s fun, cool, stuff. And super powerful.
My goal for the course is that people should walk out the door after the class feeling more empowered and positive, with tools to use for improved communications. I’d love for you to join me!
Happy November. Michael and I wish you and yours some fabulous holidays. 🙂
Speaking of fabulous, I’m often asked “What is hypnosis all about?” Here is another answer. It’s about moving yourself from “I can’t.” to “Yes, I can!” It’s empowerment. Here are some thoughts I’ve written up on the empowerment power of hypnosis!
There are unhappy people in the world who say: “I can’t!” and they make excuses. There are people in the world who let their lives be limited. They feel trapped or stuck. “My life sucks.”
On the flip side, there are powerful people in the world who say: “Yes, I can!” And they do. They say: “I’m going for it! I choose how I live.”
Which describes you? And, which would you rather be?
Empowerment. Hypnotherapy and particularly, NLP, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, are about opening up the mind to new, more desired choices and new possibilities. And making them happen.
A problem is really a problem only if you believe it to be. Henry Ford, the famous automaker, had that wonderful saying: “If you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right!” Hypnotherapy is all about “Yes, I can.” The belief controls the actions and outcomes. Hypnotherapy empowers useful beliefs.
In my line of work there is a terminology to describe this empowered vs. unhappy state of mind. It’s called being “at cause” vs. being “at effect.” Being “at cause” means I cause my world to be what I choose it to be. Power. Choice. Control. Being “at effect” means I am a cork bobbing on the ocean, helpless to the seas and currents. “At effect” means no control, feeling like a victim.
An aside: Now, this is funny. My speech to text program heard “at effect” as “a defect.” “Being a defect means you are a cork…” And people actually do get this idea. They think of themselves as having a defect, something defective about them, their mind, their personally. I say no way! What we do and how we live, it’s all a choice. And what’s nice about choice is that we can always choose something new at any time.
It is my belief and also the premise of the work I do that people are infinitely resourceful. They do have choices. What I do is open up more choices for them. It’s so easy to do this. Fear is a choice. Calm is a different choice. Overeating is a choice. Healthy eating is a different choice. Smoking is a choice. Not smoking is a different choice. “At effect” people have no idea of their own ability to choose, they live their life in that victim mentality feeling trapped. It doesn’t have to be that way. While other therapies which activate conscious resourcing offer a very limited utility for change, hypnosis kicks “at effect” out the door.
Here’s an example from my work. I had a client who is a musician. She had a fear and anxiety around solo performances. She had been to other therapists for months who made her examine in infinite detail her life history, her relationship with her parents and the deep, deep, deep, psychological reasons for the existence of her problem. Guess what? That didn’t fix it. She came to me and one session of NLP/hypnotherapy later she is performing without anxiety. It’s a new choice that her mind has chosen. I want calm and confident! Okay let’s do that! (That’s where hypnosis and NLP come in, they can do that!) This change in a person’s thinking, that’s being “at cause.”
If only the world knew how easy it is to be powerful.
I believe everyone is capable of choice. Everyone is capable of making their life better. Everyone is capable of getting the life they want. These tools I use are so fast and fascinating. and they result in a life being “at cause”. That means we make choices that bring us happiness, joy, health, and success of all varieties.
Another benefit of all this, the bridge burns after you cross it. When you become a person “at cause,” the excuses for things not being the way you want them to be dry up. You’re not making excuses anymore, you’re taking action. And creating change and success. Once we see ourselves as powerful and in control of our choices and outcomes, there’s no going back. And that’s wonderful. With the right tools, flipping that switch, power ON, in the mind can happen faster than you think.
Warm Regards,
Connie

People come to my Bellevue hypnosis office because they want something different. Something different to do, or something different NOT to do. To get over negative emotions, to create a desired outcome, success, of all varieties. NLP, Neuro Linguistic Programming, is my number one go-to tool to help.
After I explain hypnosis and hypnotherapy, I’m often asked: “What IS NLP?” Here’s a video where I explain:
As I say in the description of this video on my Youtube channel: “This methodology and mindset helps us take control of our experience of life! How we feel, how we think, what we DO…it’s all movable furniture and we, each of us, is the movin’ man! We can get the life we want.”
A hypnotherapy session in my office is really two sessions in one, in that it also includes a full NLP session as well as traditional hypnosis. I call what I do “Neuro-Linguistic Hypnotherapy™.” What I do is very different from other therapies and even from other hypnotherapists. 🙂 The approach is different from other therapies in that it is one of empowerment. NLP is my favorite thing, as well as my expertise. It’s the difference which makes the difference.
What is NLP? Another tool for unconscious communication. It’s been called “hypnosis on steroids.” That’s because it works so amazingly well and fast when the practitioner is skilled and creative. I am a Licensed Trainer of NLP ® through the Society of NLP ™ which is a source of great pride for me. There are only a few dozen such trainers in the entirety of the US, licensed through Dr. Richard Bandler, the co-originator of NLP. My husband, Michael, (also one of those Licensed Trainers of NLP ® ) and I operate a Licensed Private Career School here in Washington State, Mindworks NLP, and we teach and offer NLP certifications. NLP is cool. NLP is fun. NLP is amazing. My students get so excited by it that they have been known to start chanting in class: “NLP! NLP! NLP!”
It’s actually pretty rare that a Licensed Trainer ® is also doing one on one client work as well as teaching groups. I see private clients because this is my passion and my fun. You can learn more here, anytime, at my client website, and here, my school website. I do hope you will discover the power of NLP at some point in your life. It’s worth knowing.
When a person is passionate about what they do, it shows. It shines. Because they learn and practice and get good at it. They take joy and pride in it. They don’t settle for “just ok.” They want more. This man has practiced with his cards. 🙂
This is a mindset I like, because it’s also mine. It shows in the work I do as Mindworks Hypnosis & NLP.
In one of my earliest hypnosis trainings, the instructor referred to hypnotherapy as a “Matchbook Profession.” That’s not a compliment. It means you learn it for a buck and it’s a by the numbers affair, involving reading purchased scripts at people. No way, Jose. Perhaps some hypnotherapists are of that mindset and modus operandi, not me. This is an art, and endlessly creative, and there’s always more to learn, which is why I’m drawn to it.
My goal is and always has been, client successes. When a client “wins” (successfully gets his goal), I win. And I’m passionate about winning.
If you’ve tried some other therapies and even some other hypnotherapist or purported NLP practitioner and were not impressed with the results, go for someone more creative, skilled and passionate. You may be awesomely surprised at how quickly life improves for you.
Here is an article I’ve written about the power of the mind and the power of NLP to make positive changes in life. I use these same amazingly successful techniques involving sound to guide clients to personal change in my Bellevue NLP and hypnotherapy clinic.
The topic is sound…music, speech, how the soundtrack of our lives influences our emotional states. And how WE can enhance this and alter this influence for our own well-being. We can do all sorts of things, for example release negative emotions, create motivation, move us forward in our desires. By “tinkering” with sound in our minds!
Music moves us, elevates us, stirs our emotions, in the direction of any emotion you can name. Think of a march by John Phillip Sousa, or how any stirring anthem activates our feelings of patriotism. Think how a quiet, beautiful orchestral piece of music calms and relaxes. Think of a horror movie soundtrack, full of tension and suspense. Sound is a huge part of our experience of our lives and key to our memories and emotional states. Imagine a love movie with no soundtrack–would it have the same emotional impact? No!
By altering the sounds we play in our minds in simple ways, we can experience life differently, more positively, and here are a few easy ideas to do so:
We’ve all had arguments, with a coworker, with a spouse, with a friend, and sometimes they “eat” at us. We play them over and over in our minds, and churn up even more negative emotions like anger and irritation. Here’s something to do: as you think about that argument, create a new soundtrack. Let the voices fade and cue in the circus music. Clown music. Carnival music. Play that for awhile as the argument runs in your mind, and let it transform your experience of the argument. Done? Great! Now, think about it. That argument seems kind of silly, doesn’t it? Less power. Less force to disturb. And that’s a GOOD thing.
Here’s another use for improving your life with sound. You want to get to the gym, you know you need to exercise. You want to exercise, but somehow…you just aren’t doing it. Here’s what gets me going, and pumps up my motivation. The Rocky Theme. You know the one, where he’s running up the steps in Philadelphia: “getting strong now, gonna fly now…” Play that music in your mind when you want a lift of success and motivation. The resultant emotion will propel you out the door and to the gym. Or insert any other inspirational music which speaks to you. Movies are a great source to reference, because we all know them. You can pump up your confidence as well with music such as Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Superman.
Here’s another wonderful use of this: play with sound to combat what we call “negative self talk.” That’s the little critical voice in your mind always telling you what you can’t accomplish, and spraying you with curses: “You’re lazy!,” “You’re stupid!,” “You’ll never get it done!” and so on. Imagine that voice to be a different voice, a silly voice, a cartoon voice. Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse, Elmer Fudd, something ridiculous. Hear the same words in that new, ridiculous, cartoon voice. Maybe it’s a squeaky, high pitched cartoon voice. “You’re lazy!” The impact on you is different, isn’t it? Now it’s absurd, and not to be taken seriously. The voice is a joke!
The secret here, we can choose how we feel. Play with these simple techniques above involving sound to feel good now!

I like this picture! It’s the current view out my office window. Green life! The trees are changing. Look how easily they make radical changes. Those old leaves used to be attached. Now the trees have said: “I’m done with that!” And whooooosh, they’re gone.
That’s how hypnosis works, too. A decision is made. Change happens. And life gets better. And when it’s time to do it, you know. What you might not know is that change is as easy as what you see in this picture.
Trees are my metaphor for life. I love trees. It helps that I was born and raised in the Seattle area. We got trees!! I lived in Arizona for about a decade, and let me tell you, those cactus and palms were pretty, but can’t compete with our Pacific Northwest TREES. I’m loving the green. And the ideas they spark about how change can be fast, easy, and natural.

“I was at a proverbial crossroads in my life and knew it was time to make some changes, examine my ambitions & goals and move bravely forward into my future – perhaps an entirely new future. However, before I could do that, I needed to release some patterns & beliefs that had been holding me back.
When I discovered Mindworks, I suspected it could be ideal for my needs. One consultation with Connie and I knew I had found the perfect place and the perfect person to help me. I was immediately at ease with Connie. Her ability to compassionately and skillfully blend techniques of NLP and hypnosis allow the client to discover solutions to their own issues and problems. I trust her. I believe in her and the tools that she passionately & masterfully uses to guide you to your own truth.” Kerry D., Kent, WA.
I’m happy when my clients “get it.” It being an understanding of their own power and what this process called hypnosis really is. Hypnosis is not my power over a client, it’s a client becoming empowered in his/her own life and choices. And that is absolutely under their control.
People aren’t really stuck. They just think they are. Until they realize otherwise. Hypnosis helps in that realization. I love this work, and I love how powerful people are, when they decide to tap into the riches inside their own minds.

Goodbye to Claustrophobia with Seattle’s best hypnosis.
Hi, Guys!
I love my inbox. It’s filled daily with happy stories, the kind that make me smile. 🙂 Today’s happy story is Diana of Bellevue, WA. She came to me with severe claustrophobia. Her anxiety happened in planes, elevators, cars, anywhere she felt confined. That’s over, now.
“Thanks a bunch for all that you’ve done for me. I’m so impressed with your skills and am fascinated by NLP and hypnosis. Both topics are very much outside the realm of what I know, but are amazing in their ability (in talented hands) to deliver such positive change in a person’s life.” — Diana, Bellevue, WA.
Her life has opened up, now. Good job, Diana! Good feelings, where there used to be fear and anxiety. And the freedom to live a more full life.
That’s the power of skilled Neuro Linguistic Hypnotherapy™. And the best place to find that in the Seattle area? Mindworks Hypnosis & NLP. I’m a Licensed Trainer of NLP® and that means I’m the best in Seattle and in fact, in this part of the country. Dr. Bandler (co-originator of NLP) has 31 Licensed Trainers of Neuro-Linguistic Programming® in the entirety of the US, that’s all. Licensed Trainers are the top of the hierarchy in training and skillset. I’m one. Michael is another. That means, we’re good.
You don’t have to be a master of calibration skills to notice that one of these twins is having a bad moment. The “why” is irrelevant, what is very important to notice here is the WHAT. Two twins, sitting together, one happy as a clam, the other in a very horrifically unhappy state.
What may not be apparent to you about each twin’s response: It’s learned, and it’s a choice.
How a person responds to a moment of life or a situation is absolutely a choice. The same exact circumstance can trigger any gamut of emotion and response from agony to ecstacy.
One person might see a snake and jump and scream and run, another person might see that snake and stare in fascination and wonder, another might pick it up and make it into a beloved pet. One person might be stuck in a traffic snarl and put on a music CD and sing along, one car over a person in the same traffic snarl might grab a baseball bat and vent some road rage.
The stories and experiences of our life generate unconscious patterns of response. And we can notice those patterns, and change them at will. We can install new, more useful and desired unconscious patterns and responses in ourselves. That’s NLP. Neuro-Linguistic Programming. New emotions and ideas that lead to new behaviors, and new beliefs, and vice versa. And all of it leads to a life that we want, that we choose. Success.
Dr. Richard Bandler, the co-originator of NLP, calls this work learning “to drive your own bus.” Absolutely. And part of that drive is: “How do you want to feel?” Choose something wonderful and useful for the situation.
The difficulty is finding or acquiring the NLP skill set that makes this happen. Here in Seattle, you have two options. You can find a skilled and licensed practitioner of NLP who will make short work of your unhappy and limiting beliefs and unwanted behaviors (like me: http://www.mindworkshypnosis.net/), or you can learn NLP yourself from legitimate sources (like me: http://www.seattlenlptraining.com/) and use the tools for your own life success. I am a Licensed Trainer of Neuro-Linguistic Programming® and this is my passion. Unlocking choice for people.
Need a new life direction? It’s easier than you think! Here is another testimonial of success from the Seattle area for Connie Brannan’s work & Mindworks Hypnosis & NLP. Here’s what Brian Dawson reports after 3 sessions, just a few hours of hypnosis and neuro linguistic programming with Connie.
“Good morning Connie,
I thought I would give you a quick update. I feel great, refreshed, and full of life. I really want to thank you for the sessions, it was truly mind changing. You moved me back into my life’s direction. I really don’t get frustrated or angry at myself anymore mainly due to a positive direction in my own self talk. You are an artist of a person’s mind and soul. I am sure that I will utilize you in the future and won’t hesitate to call when the need arises.
Thank you!!!”
-Brian Dawson, Woodinville, WA
Woo hoo! Yay, Brian. If you live in the Seattle area or beyond, why not seek out the most skilled and successful helper you can find? Don’t settle for maybe or mediocrity, go for quality. Go for artistry. That’s me and Michael. We are Licensed Trainers of NLP (registered trademark), and we have a higher level of hypnotic success expertise than anyone else in the Pacific Northwest. And…we love what we do.
Does hypnosis work? Does NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) work? Absolutely, Yes!! The evidence mounts. Here is a video testimonial from Julia of Seattle, filmed today at the Mindworks Hypnosis offices. Julia is another impressed client, who is marveling at the “profound differences in her life” via a process that feels so “comfortable.” Yes, that’s NLP and hypnosis done well. Julia had a single Neuro Linguistic Hypnotherapy session prior to this report.
You can find out for yourself. Call us! Connie & Michael (425) 564-8608. Here comes my favorite expression again!! 🙂 “The proof is in the pudding, and you and your success is the pudding.” Julia is enjoying hers.
This video reminds me of my client yesterday. She came in for a second session on anxiety release and reported to me her results from session one: “I feel more alive. I’m waking up each morning, feeling motivated. I’m actually getting things done.” This lady had a single Neuro Linguistic Hypnotherapy session with me a couple weeks ago, and already the people around her are commenting on how strikingly more “happy” she is.
That’s what hypnosis will do for you! Skilled hypnosis, I mean. My tool kit is full of true NLP expertise, and that leads to happy.
“Depression” and “Anxiety” are states of mind/body that can be altered. Quicker than you can imagine. And you don’t need a prescription to do that. My client told me she had cut her anxiety medication wayyyyy down (after discussing it with her medical professional, of course), on the road to eliminating it entirely.
My calendar of events tells me it’s “Act Happy Week” beginning on March 19th. Yay! I’m ready! I’m celebrating!! Big time! Are you?
I’ll tell you why I think you should participate in this as well. When you choose to “act happy,” or “pretend” to be happy, you unleash all kinds of good chemicals in your body. Pretty soon you’re not acting, you’re feeling and being happy. Happy is good. Happy leads a person into all manner of success making, improving health, relationships, even cognitive function, wealth.
Happy is the chemistry of success! We got endorphins, we got oxytocins. We got dopamine. I don’t know what all. I don’t need to know. I can feel it and it’s good!
This is no stretch for me. I’m happy pretty much all year long. For those of you who have found happiness to be difficult, start now, with “Act Happy Week!” Practice. Smile, dance, laugh, and begin to feel good.
Yes, I’m extremely good at happy. Why? I’m a Licensed Trainer of NLP. NLP is a methodology that offers shortcuts to creating new feelings in your body at will. You can pump up your happy and hold onto it where it’s useful for your success. Any time of year. Why not?
Well, Michael and I moved into a new place recently. It included a lovely set of “new?” appliances. Or, so it was purported. The washer and dryer sitting in our laundry room looked beautiful. Uber fancy! Digital. Lots of controls. Front loading. However, the first time I tried to wash some clothes I encountered a frightening problem. The thing jumped around the room like a raging bull on steroids!!
I mean scary movement. Possessed. On the spin cycle, the washing machine repeatedly jumped violently–smacking the pipes, the dryer, it hit the wall again and again to the point that it gouged out a nice hole in the paint and plaster. Yikes! I had set some clothes on top of the machine, they were flung around the room.
I set the spin to “slow.” Same deal. My adrenalin was pumping. I unplugged it from the wall. What to do?
Michael and I tried to figure it out. We know NOTHING about washing machines. The thing was installed on a white plastic tub/liner on top of a linoleum flooring. We thought “Perhaps it’s that liner that’s sliding, it’s not sitting on a steady surface.” So, we removed the door to the room so we could maneover around in there and tugged and tipped and pulled to get the washing machine (weighs a ton) off of the liner and sitting firmly on the floor. We did it!
It still jumped around the room like a raging bull!
The next day we were at one of those large home supply stores and talking to appliance clerks about the problem. They had no advice for us, except that we should buy a new machine. Well, we could do that.
When we moved into our place we had found a “handy man” to help us install some blinds. We called the handy man–he had said he was knowledeable about appliances and could fix them. He looked at it, played with the feet, pressed buttons, etc. and did nothing at all useful to fix the problem. We paid him $100 for his time–but nothing changed. The bull still lived in our laundry room.
We thought: this is ridiculous. So we called in a real live appliance repairman to help us. An expert, someone actually trained in washing machine repair. Someone who knows what the hell they’re doing.
So, we waited for our appointment, and the repairman came. He took 5 seconds to figure out the problem, and about 3 minutes to fix it. Turns out the shipping screws were still installed in the back of the machine, next to plaques reading “remove before use.” Whoever had set up the appliances in our home had not done that. Those screws were holding the drum in an unnatural position, so that it couldn’t spin properly. That was all of it. He removed the screws and the thing works perfectly!!! Spins perfectly, sits steady, purrs like a kitten. And washes clothes like a dream. Yay!!! 🙂
The point: when somebody is skilled and trained and knows what they’re doing, it makes all the difference in the world. And they do make it seem so “easy” to fix things. Because it is, to someone who is the real deal. Our washing machine repairman was the real deal.
There’s a lesson here, for me and Michael, and for everyone. Go for quality. Find someone well trained who can really help you when you have a problem.
This is applicable to the work I do as well. If you’ve got behavioral “repairs” to make, you can ask your neighbor, ask the butcher at the market, ask Dear Abby, go forever to bumbling talk therapists or take a chance with abysmally unskilled script-readers posing as “hypnotists” or you can come to people who know what the hell they’re doing and make short work of the problem. That’s Michael and me. We’re the real deal. Clinical Neuro-Linguistic Hypnotherapists and Licensed Trainers of Neuro-Linguistic Programming®

Michael and I often are called upon to explain NLP Neuro Linguistic Programming and hypnosis to people who don’t really know what those things are. They have murky and mistaken ideas, sometimes fueled by “Hollyweird” and sometimes fueled by our culture’s seeming fondness for ridiculous beliefs like “change is difficult and slow.”
No, it’s not. Change is instant. The build up to the decision to change might be slow. Change itself is FAST. And easy, especially with the tools I have up my sleeve.
Here’s one of the most prevalent false ideas I encounter. People think they have to know “why” a problem exists in order to change it. WRONG! That’s an idea created and endorsed by “talk therapists” (nothing like what I do) who want to milk a client for repeated sessions continuing over months and years sometimes decades with little to no progress. My work is fast. As in, hours to positive changes. Let me repeat that. Not years, HOURS. Sometimes, minutes. 🙂
Hypnosis and NLP are what are known as “brief therapies.” And it’s not talk therapy, it’s not about the “why?” We figure out “how” you do it (it being a problem) and change that, so you don’t do it. Easy!
Michael has created a lovely metaphor to explain this idea of NLP vs. Talk Therapies. Imagine you’ve bought a new home. (I just did!) Imagine one of the rooms is painted a hideous color –a foul yellowy-green. Yick!! Ok, you now own this home. The bedroom is painted green. You hate the color. You want it to be different. You’ve decided you want it to be blue. What do you do?
Do you sit and wring your hands endlessly and cry “I don’t understand!” and speculate on WHY is that wall green? “Why, why, why?” What were they thinking? What is the cause of that choice? Or do you simply get out the bucket of blue paint and the brush and get to work making it different? With NLP, we get out the bucket of paint. And we paint, making the room what we want it to be.
Now, the wall is successfully blue. Do we care WHY it was ever green? No. Not me. I don’t care! It’s not green any more. And we never even needed to figure out why. If we HAD figured out why, would that spontaneously turn the wall blue? Of course not. Knowing why doesn’t fix things. Fixing things fixes things.
As I expressed it to a potential client. This is not a quest for understanding. This a quest for change. As in NOW. NLP and hypnosis are movement, not chitchat. I lay down the ground rules for my clients…if you stray into story about why, that is not useful information to my work, and I’ll stop you. And I do. This isn’t talk therapy. This is life change. Now.
It’s not been frequent, but I do work with children as well as adults. Children are VERY responsive to Neuro Linguistic Programming and hypnosis. I’ve worked with as young as six years old.
What’s needed is an ability to focus/engage/play through the processes with me. I had a wonderful little 8-year old boy like that the other day. He came in with a terror of elevators. Not just a fear. A wide-eyed terror. He had learned it. We proceeded to unlearn it.
I did my thing with him, Neuro Linguistic Programming, primarily. We created new feelings and new pictures and new sounds in his mind around elevators. Better ones. We did some hypnosis as well, with imagery to create security and a sense of well being.
Success!
I like to test my work, always. Immediately in the real world, when possible. My office building has a small elevator. (And smaller elevators had been even more terrifying to my client.) The boy, his mom, and I rode the elevator that day. Suddenly, an elevator was an amusement ride, something FUN to do. He wanted to push the buttons. He rode down, he rode up. Feeling happy. Feeling good. “Mom, let’s do it again!” We rode down and up again.
As they left my office I heard him saying to his mother, “I want to ride the elevator!! Can I push the buttons?” Fear is gone.
A side personal note: I have relatives that are very very successful in the realm of retail stores. They sell pretty things to people who have a lot of money. That’s nice. By anyone’s standards looking at them, they are success and wealth personified. One of those relatives made a comment yesterday suggesting that the work I do is insignificant.
I think what I do is infinitely more important and more valuable. A little boy had fear. And now he doesn’t. I believe that transformation is worth more than all the tea in China.
I’d like to share a story with you about a man in my Bellevue College hypnosis class this week. The names are being masked to protect the real people involved. Let’s call him SAM. Hi, Sam.
Sam took my class. He’s an older gentleman, who sat in the back of the room during my first lecture with arms folded and a scowl of disbelief on his face. I was talking about the power and success of hypnosis. His face was a poster child for “I don’t believe this AT ALL! Bull-oney!”
It was comical to me, his expression and demeanor were so over-the-top. I turned to him and said: “You look skeptical.” He immediately denied it. “No, I’m open minded.” “Wonderful!” I replied. 🙂
Anyway we had a group trance experience and afterwards students were commenting on the experience. Sam denied that he had been hypnotized. Hey, when you do this work day in and day out as I do, guess what? You can recognize hypnosis. Sam was hypnotized. Very.
So, I teach my class, and I throw in a few suggestions during trance to speak to various goals that the students had expressed. Sam’s was weight loss. Sam also got his mind focused on weight loss during the in-class exercises on goal setting.
Next week completes the course. Sam returned. His whole attitude and demeanor had changed. Why? He had immediately had BEHAVIORAL CHANGES in his life, with no other source than the work we did in class. He had already lost some weight to the point his wife commented on it to him! He was drinking more water, eating less, and so on. He was amazed. Suddenly, Sam was a believer. Hypnosis works!
Yes, it does. At the end of the class, Sam was excited, pleased, enthusiastic, and he said to me: “I think I’ve found the holy grail.” People who are battling weight and have eating issues, yes, they do know the endless search for something that works.
The holy grail? Perhaps. 🙂 Yes, you have found something wonderful, Sam, and yes, it’s going to lead you to attain your desires.
I don’t make a lot of money teaching at Bellevue College, I mostly do it to spread the good word on hypnosis. The transformation in Sam’s face from “No!” to “Wow!” makes it all worth it for me.
More classes are coming up, by the way. Check out my events page.
A week or two ago I blogged about “Find Your Power” — a directive from my favorite teacher for me. Here’s a video spot relaying that same message for my clients and future clients. You have what you need to create positive changes, and it’s in you right now. Absolutely, YES! That resource, that power may be buried. We can unearth it–bring it to the light of day. We grab it. We use it. That’s what hypnosis does! 🙂
I have a favorite expression: he’s worth his weight in rubies. Finding your power, well, it’s worth more than that!
Wishing you joy and success and empowerment,
Connie
Michael and I are fond of Redbox, renting movies from a kiosk for about a dollar. Last night we rented a strange, but good one. “Another Earth.” It’s about alternate universes and the intertwining of lives and how life can change in a heartbeat.
There was one scene in particular that was “very NLP.” 🙂 The heroine of the movie was sharing a story about space travel. Now, I don’t know if this story in the movie is “true” or not, but as it unfolds, it’s massively hypnotic and indicative of the power of the mind. I’ll share it with you. 🙂
She told the story of the first astronaut in space, confined inside a tiny little capsule, basically a cupboard in space. He’s all alone. He has a tiny porthole/window through which he can see the stars. He’s also the first person to see our Planet Earth from an outer space perspective. The blue against blackness, the curvature. The exquisite beauty.
Our astronaut journeys to the cosmos, captures the information he has been sent to capture, and now he’s coming back home. He’s in the middle of his ride home, and a loud slow ticking sound emerges from the control panel. Like a tapping. Like a ticking. He can’t identify the source. Everything seems to be functioning perfectly, yet the sound continues. He can’t figure out how to turn it off. Tick…tick…tick…tick…tick…tick. Endlessly. It moves from a question to an annoyance to a larger annoyance. He sits in the tiny space, listening for hours upon hours to tick…tick…tick…tick…tick…tick, to the point it becomes an absolute maddening sound that threatens his sanity. Like water torture. Drip…drip…drip, only it’s tick…tick…tick. He’s sure he’s about to go insane!
He has days left in the capsule and no way to stop the sound. It continues. “Noooooo! make it stop!!” He’s on the verge of absolutely losing it. Tick…tick…tick. Tick…tick…tick.
Finally, in a moment of desperation, he decides that the only way to survive is to fall in love with the sound. To transform the sound in his mind to something enjoyable, beautiful even. He focuses his mind. Suddenly, the ticking is music, it’s music to his ears. Lovely, haunting, beautiful music, an appropriate backdrop to the stars and glow of the earth out his porthole window.
He rides home in a state of utter bliss.
I like this story!! It’s true, in that WE control how we interpret our world. We choose how to understand and react to anything. I once lived in an apartment near a very busy street, with constant traffic noise. It was bothering me! I decided NOT to be irritated anymore and to not even notice the sound. And it vanished. Not really, only to me. No longer an irritant.
My dad snored. To me it was a hideous sound. To my mother, it was a sound of comfort. “He’s home, he’s safe, he’s with me.” We can make our world what we want. It’s all in the interpretation, which we control in our minds.
The mind is amazingly powerful. That’s what hypnosis does, it’s a tool to focus the mind more powerfully and more effectively. We all use hypnosis every day, whether it’s formally induced or not. We can change our perceptions, our perspective, our thinking. And that changes everything. How we feel, and what we do behaviorally in the world.
It’s all moveable furniture!
Happy Sunday to you, find some time to create a moment of enjoyment Your mind can do that!
Warm Regards,
Connie
I invite you to sign up for my FREE electronic newsletter “The Monthly Trance.” Learn more about how you can use hypnosis and NLP to change your mind and change your life in ways that bring joy.
In the training/teaching side of what we do, Michael and I teach other hypnotherapists how to be more successful and effective in helping. More tools and more flexibility means more positive changes for clients. Here is a brief clip of Michael teaching a hypnosis class, teaching one variety of what is known as “instant induction.” It’s an arm pull technique. Simple to master, and powerfully effective. Instant trance!
Of course, it’s what you do with someone therapeutically AFTER trance that makes a successful clinical hypnotherapist. We teach all that as well. 🙂 http://www.seattlenlptraining.com/
Sometimes clients seem to think “I can’t be hypnotized.” Yes, you can. Everyone can be–by a skilled hypnotist.
My teacher, Dr. Richard Bandler, in addition to being mega-uber famous, is a nice guy. Very nice guy. After conducting intensive seminars, he also makes time to make himself available for his students. He’ll answer questions people are too reticent to ask in class, he’ll pose for photographs, and he’ll autograph any of his dozens of published books. I did all of those things with him, including asking him to sign a copy of one of his books for me, “Frogs Into Princes.”
He kindly did. He wrote in my book, “Connie, find your power.”
I was and am thrilled. “Find your power.” Dr. Bandler gave me a direct suggestion. Yay! I’m doing it. I made a photocopy of that page, cut out that sentence in Dr. Bandler’s distinctive writing and stuck it under my acrylic desk blotter at Mindworks Hypnosis & NLP. I look at it every day, and I remember to continue to find my power more and more.
Dr. Bandler IS NLP, he is co-inventor of it, and named it. What is NLP? Neuro Linguistic Programming is the study of successful thinking, it is a type of conversational hypnosis that creates positive changes fast faster fastest. It’s been called “hypnosis on steroids.” I live it. I love it! I use it. I teach it. It’s the basis of my personal success, as well as all the positive changes my clients have enjoyed, and the clients of my students as well.
“Find your power.”
I use social media, primarily FaceBook, not as a search engine optimization gimmick (as some local hypnotists do) but because I think it’s fun and a wonderful way to share and connect. I mentioned on FaceBook about Dr. Bandler’s directive sitting under my desk blotter. Someone posted in reply criticizing Dr. Bandler–thinking it was a negative comment about me. “Why? Is it lost? That implies you don’t have power.”
If someone says to you “find your keys,” does that imply you don’t have keys? No, it means you have them and you want to get them in your hand so you can use them to turn on the car and get going! I think “find your power” means connect with your power, grow your power, and the premise there is, you have power. I know I do. I know we all do.
One of the presuppositions of NLP is that we, every one of us, do indeed have infinite resourcefulness and power. Everything we need is already inside us to create change in ways that we find useful. NLP, it’s a methodology of continued empowerment. If you don’t like where you’re at, you choose and do something else!
Thank you, Dr. Bandler. “Find your power.” It’s an ongoing joy-filled process, and I’m working on it!
Do you want to sleep with strangers? Well, there’s an opportunity to do just that, in a way that’s both safe and sensible. In fact, it’s a good thing, a terrific thing. To be 100% accurate, it’s not sleep, it just looks like it from the outside. It’s HYPNOSIS. Who wants to learn how to use their own mind to create success? Me! Me! Me! Me! Maybe you, too?
I’m teaching a continuing education course at Bellevue College for their Personal Enrichment Program. It’s called “Building Confidence & Self Esteem Through Self Hypnosis.” Here is a pretty inexpensive way to taste and learn hypnosis. I guide you (the students) to trance, and we set an instant trigger to return to that state. When YOU want, on YOUR terms, for YOUR purposes. It’s powerful. It’s pleasant. It’s amazing. Come and learn! We also learn well-forming goals so that they make sense for your life, and are attainable, truly attainable, and how to talk to the unconscious part of your mind. Persuasive talk. So cool!!!
It’s a total of 6 hours spread over two evenings. 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. February 15 & 22, 2012
Right now, there are a few seats still available. Bring a friend. Bring a pillow. Bring some goals. This skill, self-hypnosis, can change your life.

Yesterday I was talking to someone who didn’t have a clue what hypnosis is or NLP is (Neuro-Linguistic Programming ™) or what hypnotherapy is or even a very positive view of the human mind and human capabilities. They said they thought I help “losers who need their hand held while they whine.” Uh, no. Gutter ball!
#1. There are no “losers,” there are people who feel stuck because they perceive limited choices in certain contexts. #2. This isn’t about story telling or hand-holding, it’s about life change and behavioral change. NOW.
NLP is my primary tool. It’s the study of successful thinking. How successful people do what they do, dissecting their UN-conscious strategies that lead to desired outcomes. We ALL can create new strategies that lead to success, and change our behaviors, our thinking, our lives. We all can model excellence. An easy way to do this is through hypnosis and NLP.
Hypnosis is simply a method of accessing more or your own mind’s power and creativity and flexibility. When there’s a “problem,” there’s a strategy that needs tweaking that is essentially a lack of choice. See cigarette, I must smoke. Lack of choice. Smell baking cookie, I must eat it. Lack of choice. See a spider, scream and run. Lack of choice.
Hypnosis offers new unconscious choices, that supplant the old ones, that are more desired and lead to success.
That’s it, in a nutshell. Hypnosis. It’s a success builder. And you define the success that you’re seeking.
I love what I do, and I love when someone begins to realize that they have more choices and can create their own life the way they want it. And, they do it! That’s when they write me the testimonials I have on my web pages.
Here’s a simple NLP thought process that can bring a new state of mind to a problem state of mind. It involves the power of a few simple words to change how you’re thinking, and ultimately, what you do in the world. The magic of “yet.” That’s a wonderful word. So small, and so powerful. What does it mean? Take the following sentences in bold font and consider them fully.
I can’t do X. (X being stop smoking, or lose weight, or release fear or any statement of a limitation…) “I can’t.” Full stop. End of story. Nothing is beyond that conclusion.
It’s a stopper thought. And it leads to a myriad of negative emotions. Hopelessness, overwhelm, sad.
I can’t do X, yet. The assumption, the implication here is that I will be able to do X at some time. Eventually, I will X. This little word “yet” opens doors to new possibilities, learning, and movement forward. And what is the feeling with this? Positive, motivated, optimistic. I can’t do X yet. But I will!
The second response to a limiting statement of “I can’t” is “What would it be like if you could?” Answer the question. Think about it. Seriously. Pretend it’s possible. This drives the mind in a new direction, creating images and thoughts and feelings of
success. What you focus on expands. Now your mind is prompted to move in the
direction of what you do in fact want, not dwelling within the limitation of “I can’t.” With this new focus, behavioral nudges and opportunities to move toward that goal just seem to appear. And you’re doing what you couldn’t do before. You hadn’t created the right
state of mind and body for it. Yet!

Yes, New Years is looming, which for me personally is a wonderful thing. My wedding anniversary, 26 years now, happens in a few weeks. I like fresh, I like new. We’re moving to a new home in January as well. (My office stays in Bellevue!) All this is good. I’m resolving that 2012 should be my best year ever! Do you likewise!
I worked with the gentleman below for anxious feelings which were inhibiting his success and helped him reconnect to his own positive energy. It was always there, in abundance.
“Hello Connie, I just wanted to let you know, so far everything is going great! I’m very happy I had the opportunity to meet someone like yourself in my life. You’ve helped me so much…you have a tremendous amount of positive energy and that’s what I’m naturally all about! : ) Thanks again! Best regards, Wasiem Hamadeh, Renton, WA”
Yay, Wasiem! You go, boy! 🙂
For the record, I’m not medical. I never “treat” anxiety or any medical conditions. I simply help people feel better, choose different behaviors, and life improves and goals are met.
Doctors subscribe to the one-size-fits-all methodology of change. Categorization. Labeling. And then medicine’s idea of the grand fix–here, take this drug. Or these drugs. You have “depression.” Here’s a drug for that. You have “anxiety.” Here’s a drug for that. You have “insomnia.” Here’s a drug for that. Problem is, that often doesn’t work in creating solutions and a better life. Client-centered NLP and hypnosis does work.
Everyone is different, and what they need is different. I figure out how (not why) my specific client is choosing (yes, it’s a choice) to feel anxious, or sad, or stuck, or what
have you. All these “medical conditions” which really devolve down into feelings and behaviors flowing from having those feelings can be easily changed with NLP and hypnotherapy. We choose a better feeling or blend of feelings instead. Take two of these (better feelings, how about happy and joy-filled) and and you won’t need to call me or anyone else in the morning.
I’m helping a client who has a phobia: fear of dinosaurs. That’s a new one! And it’s also proof positive that these fears are irrational and cannot be solved consciously. How many dinos is she likely to run into on a daily basis that it should be a continuing terror in her life?
They’re extinct! Let’s make the fear be extinct. I know how! Got to get into the unconscious mind to solve these things! 🙂
Fear can be attached to anything, and can be unattached in a heartbeat. That’s the power of Neuro Linguistic Programming. NLP. I know it’s true! I’ve lived the difference from fear to calm–I had a phobia that lasted decades. Spiders. Panic and hysteria and adrenalin and screaming. After 15 minutes of NLP performed 5 years ago, “poof!” No more fear. I like to give clients proof, known in the trade as “convincers.” Well, my neurology of fascinated clear-minded CALM while standing next to a spider nowadays, it’s a good convincer for me!
It’s cool to help people with these things, and I’ve worked with pretty much
everything under the sun. Or so I thought. Dinosaurs is a new one. Beyond the common fears, fear of public speaking, fear of heights, fear of flying, fear of driving, fear of spiders and snakes, fear of elevators, fear of the dentist, I’ve helped people with fears of overripe bananas, record stores, the wind (seeing movement in trees led to
panic), the color red, bridges, sleep, and more. But Dinos! As I said, that’s a new one.
We’ll make short work of that fear!
Fear can be useful, when it’s appropriate. Historically, when the saber toothed tiger showed up at the cave, it was a good response to run away. If man had walked the earth at the same era as dinosaurs, it would have been useful to run away then, too,
only we didn’t.

I love happy news. Not that it’s any surprise to me, but I like to receive confirmation in “the real world” of the success of the work we do. Joy Epstein of Sun City, Arizona, had a terrible fear of driving–to the point that she had not driven a car in years. She knew how, and had driven earlier in her life, but had severe panic attacks and could not get behind the wheel and could not drive. Until she could–with Mindworks Hypnosis. Which was actually amazingly quick. (That’s what NLP does for you.) At the conclusion of the first session with me, when her husband came to pick her up, she got behind the wheel and drove home! Yay!
People ask me all the time: do the changes stick? Of course they do. When you update a program in your mind, you’ve got a new program running and the old one is transformed. My spider phobia has never come back, and it’s been 5 years now. It’s not going to. I worked with Joy on her driving fear last summer, and here’s the current report:
“I have been able to drive without a panic attack. I drove with my husband on local freeways. I was also able to help him drive from Bellevue to Arizona, which was a dream of mine, and he was so happy and grateful to have a break from driving! You really changed my life, and “thank you” does not seem enough to say. It was truly wonderful meeting you. I have bragged about you – in the best possible way – to some people here in the neighborhood – so much so, that you may get new clients who fly to Bellevue to meet with you! …You are an awesome Neuro-Linguistic Hypnotherapist…thank you for helping me. — Joy Epstein, Sun City, Arizona”
What are you afraid of? When you decide it’s time to ditch that fear, toss it to the curb, I can help. Call me to learn more about my Neuro-Linguistic Hypnotherapy services and arrange for an in-person free consult. Call Connie at (425) 564-8608.
Happy Autumn! I love this time of year. Crispy! Fresh. A time for changes. Here’s a really easy, fun, fast, and amazingly powerful technique to create change–as it’s used here, a tool to combat procrastination.
Books and mountains of words of advice have been written about procrastination, that inertia that says: “Do it later.” We all know that feeling. It’s something we want to do–sort of, but are just NOT doing. Something stops us. And that something is unknown, unseen, but we feel it. Looking at that sink of dirty dishes, I know the feeling.
I get a lot of clients who express that feeling as well. They want to exercise. They just don’t. They want to start a business. They just don’t. They want to create something, write something, learn something, organize something, clean something, DO something. They just don’t. Excuses miraculously appear that “justify” delay, with an inner thought: “I’ll do it later, I’ll do it tomorrow.” Tomorrow, the same “put it off” feeling is in place, and more excuses appear. Is this a familiar pattern to any of you?
Any activity can elicit procrastination feelings. Some people’s joy and positive desire and “I can’t wait, I can’t wait!” is another person’s “I don’t want to. Maybe tomorrow.” Manana!
What if it were easy to change this? What if it were easy to attach a feeling of motivation, passion, joy or even just “routine” to what we want to do? It is. I like the idea of shift to routine. If something is routine, we just do it. Because we do. No thought required. No struggle.
Here’s a simple yet powerful Neuro-Linguistic Programming ™ technique to do just that. It’s officially called a “visual sub-modality shift.” Michael calls it “Magic in action.” I call it “fun!” I’m going to walk you through a process to turn an activity that you’re procrastinating on into a routine activity you do easily.
What is routine to you? We’re all different. An example from my life is “brushing my teeth.” I do that every day. No ifs, ands, or buts. No struggle. No inner discussion. I just do it. It’s not a hardship. It’s routine. It might be something different for you. You get up and get dressed every day. Routine. Michael drinks coffee every day. Routine. You check your email. You bathe. You comb your hair.
Pick an example in your life of a routine activity. Once you’ve settled on that, create an image in your mind that represents that activity. When you create a picture in your mind, the feeling attached (this is something I just do automatically) comes with it. Ok, got it? Good.
Now, what is an activity you’d like to become more routine? The thing you may be procrastinating on, perhaps like exercise. Make a picture in your mind that represents that. Just let it pop in. Got the second picture? Good.
Now, I’ll walk you through the process.
First, study the picture of your routine activity. Notice all the photo-shop type qualities of the picture. Is it in color or black and white? Is it three-dimensional or flat like a photograph? Is there movement in the picture or is it still? How many images? Is it landscape mode, portrait mode, panoramic? How big is the picture. Is it life size? Poster size? Index card size? How far away from your mind’s eye is the picture?
We actually carry our inner pictures floating around us in space. Some are right in front of our face, some are at arm’s length, some are across the room, some are to the right of us, the left, above, below, behind, etc. Find the picture in space. Notice the clarity, focus, contrast, brightness, the saturation of color if there is color. Notice all those photo-shop type qualities.
Step two. Take the second picture, the procrastination one, and MATCH every quality to be the same as the qualities of the routine picture. We’re not talking content of the pictures here, we’re talking those qualities I’ve just mentioned. Brightness, location, size, clarity, color/no color, etc. Make your procrastination activity picture match in every way the routine picture.
Now, count to five. Or, look out the window for a moment. Distract yourself. Think about something else. Just for a moment.
Now, think about the activity you had been procrastinating on…how do you feel about it now? Think about doing it right now or at your next reasonable available time. How do you feel? Are you making inner excuses not to do it or are you feeling more inclined to just do it?
If the change in feeling is pleasing to you, then, snap your fingers and tell yourself to keep the activity picture just like that–with the new qualities.
NLP is the real deal for life change.
How we feel determines how we think, and what we do. This shift in feeling and thinking right now is going to lead to a shift in behaviors, what we actually DO in “the real world.” Prove it to yourself. Play with this and write to me with your success!
You know, when I was a kid Halloween was a big, big deal. My favorite holiday. 🙂 It may still be. And nowadays, not for the sugar. It’s a celebration of imagination.
