Hi, Hypnosis Friends!<\/p>\n

Have you heard about this very strange auditory sound bite\u2026the Yanny or Laurel thing?\u00a0 Absolutely fascinating.\u00a0 It\u2019s a word, computer voice generated.\u00a0 But, what word?\u00a0 Most people listening to this voice generation, hear:\u00a0 LAUREL.\u00a0 Fewer, hear: YANNY.\u00a0 How can that be?\u00a0 The same sound heard so differently?<\/p>\n

Actually, this phenomenon is well known in my world, it\u2019s one of the tenets of NLP:\u00a0 we create our reality in our own mind.<\/p>\n

When I listened to the sound bite the first time, all I could hear is Yanny.\u00a0 And I\u2019m like:\u00a0 \u201cLaurel?? What the heck are they talking about?\u00a0 Michael heard Yanny, too.\u201d\u00a0 Then, I played with this device:<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a toggle switch created by the New York Times<\/u>, so you can change your perception of what you\u2019re hearing.\u00a0 With the pointer centered, you’re hearing the original sound.\u00a0 Do you hear Yanny or Laurel?\u00a0 Move the toggle left, move it right, and you’re altering the frequencies.\u00a0 I did this!\u00a0 And suddenly, Laurel popped!\u00a0 My brain performed what we call, in NLP parlance, a reframe.\u00a0 It\u2019s not that (Yanny), it\u2019s THIS! (Laurel).\u00a0 A new way of seeing, in this case, hearing.<\/p>\n

Suddenly, all I could hear in the sound bite was Laurel, Laurel, Laurel.\u00a0 Yanny was now auditorially invisible to me.<\/p>\n

I decided I wanted Yanny back.\u00a0 So, I played with the toggle some more training my mind to hear either word, based on my intention.\u00a0 So, now when I listen to the sound bite, I can hear either Laurel or Yanny, on demand.\u00a0 I amuse myself by listening to the recording and hearing:\u00a0 Yanny, Laurel, Yanny, Laurel, Yanny, Laurel.\u00a0 Or, I can hear both together in the same word, overlaid.<\/p>\n

We have power.\u00a0 We have control.\u00a0 The world is what we make it.<\/p>\n

Is that a cookie?\u00a0 Something delicious, a treat to be enjoyed?\u00a0 Or, is it a piece of disgusting \u201cno way, Jose!\u201d?\u00a0 Is that a cigarette, a familiar friend, or is it more like a person who you thought was a friend but you now see is a backstabbing liar who deserves to die a slow, horrible death?\u00a0 Consistent exercise, is that a chore or a joy?\u00a0 That spider thing over there, is that a terror or a whatever?\u00a0 Your coworker, does he make your blood boil in annoyance, or does he make you laugh?\u00a0 You decide.\u00a0 We all can decide.\u00a0 And our behaviors in the world follow our decisions.<\/p>\n

Reframing is the power to see things in a new way (or hear).\u00a0 We can lock those changes in place, and live in a different world.\u00a0 Or, we can be flexible with them.\u00a0 That\u2019s called choice.<\/p>\n

I remember how pleased I was when I was able to control this dancer.\u00a0 Is she spinning clockwise or counter clockwise?\u00a0 Either way, it\u2019s up to me.<\/p>\n

The power of mind is amazing.\u00a0 And this Yanny, Laurel thing is a great example.\u00a0 Play with the toggle switch tool I shared, and discover that you get to choose whether it\u2019s Yanny or Laurel, just like you get to choose everything else in your world.<\/p>\n
