In a world obsessed with youthful appearance, here’s more evidence to prove something we’ve all suspected: being overweight makes you\u00a0look older.<\/strong> \u00a0Overweight adds years to your appearance. \u00a0And of course, it makes you\u00a0feel<\/em> older, slower, and creakier, with\u00a0less energy.<\/p>\n

On Facebook, I found this very cool program from Microsoft, and I immediately started playing with it. \u00a0 “How Old Do I Look?”<\/a>\u00a0 It’s an age old question (pun) filled with appeal. \u00a0We all want to know that!<\/p>\n

It kind of reminds me of the old carnival barkers who would guess your weight or age, only more scientific! \u00a0Here, you plug in any pics of yourself, and the facial recognition algorithms estimate your age. \u00a0In Microsoft’s formal lingo: \u00a0“Part of Microsoft Project Oxford, Face APIs provide state-of-the-art algorithms to process face images, like face detection with gender and age prediction, recognition, alignment and other application level features.”<\/p>\n

In the pictures of me in the video below, one heavier, one thinner, you can see what the age-detecting-robots thought. \u00a0Heavier\u00a0is seen as\u00a0older! \u00a0 In truth, in the thinner picture, I’m two years older<\/em> than the other pic. \u00a0 The algorithm says: \u00a0the same face thinner looks younger! \u00a0And I agree!<\/p>\n
