How many of you have ever seen a stage hypnosis show?\u00a0 Did you wonder (as I did my first time experiencing hypnosis, which happened to be while watching a\u00a0hypnosis\u00a0show at the Puyallup\u00a0Fair):\u00a0 “What IS this???”\u00a0\u00a0It’s called “stage hypnosis.”\u00a0 It’s a show, or demonstration, for entertainment purposes, of the power of the human mind.\u00a0 It’s fun.\u00a0 Laughs.\u00a0 Humor.\u00a0 Amusement.\u00a0 Amazement.\u00a0 Did you ask yourself (as I did):\u00a0 “Is it REAL??”<\/p>\n

Yes!\u00a0 It’s real!\u00a0 These\u00a0participants in the hypnosis are actually\u00a0experiencing new realities.\u00a0\u00a0 For example,\u00a0these new realities may involve differences in sensation.\u00a0 As a hypnotic subject in a stage show, you may\u00a0feel hot while imagining a warm beach, even though the room may be perfectly comfortable temperature.\u00a0 You may experience differences in reality, like speaking a foreign language you have never learned.\u00a0 Even Martian!\u00a0\u00a0Differences in\u00a0other sense experiences of the world, an onion may taste like an apple.\u00a0 Differences in your identity.\u00a0 You may begin singing and dancing\u00a0believing yourself to be\u00a0Elvis Presley.\u00a0 What IS this?\u00a0 It’s a freedom of expression and inner creativity.\u00a0 In some cases, simply a license to act goofy.\u00a0 How is the hypnotist MAKING the people do that?\u00a0\u00a0They’re not.\u00a0 The participants want to–they are volunteers!\u00a0 It’s NOT mind control.<\/p>\n

What does this have to do with hypnotherapy—the application of hypnosis to achieve positive changes\u00a0in behavior and feeling and thinking?\u00a0 It’s the same power of the mind.\u00a0 The same power of the mind to create new realities.\u00a0 Only,\u00a0the changes are desired and useful, not silly, and\u00a0good hypnotherapists\u00a0make them stick.\u00a0 Hypnosis.\u00a0 It’s a GOOD thing!<\/p>\n

Michael and I were in Las Vegas this past weekend, and we went to a stage hypnosis show.\u00a0 And we enjoyed it!\u00a0 The ones in Vegas\u00a0tend to be\u00a0adult humor, the ones you might see at the fair are family-oriented humor.\u00a0 We love stage hypnosis.\u00a0 In fact, we’ve both been trained professionally in stage hypnosis, as well as our other trainings.\u00a0 In fact, we’ve both performed stage hypnosis–birthday parties and the like.\u00a0 An understanding of the mind is useful, and all new information gathered is useful.\u00a0 Learning stage hypnosis has made me a better hypnotist, adding to my skill set.<\/p>\n

Some people think stage hypnosis is\u00a0“bad” or less\u00a0valuable.\u00a0 Nope!!\u00a0 Not at all.\u00a0\u00a0It’s for a different purpose.\u00a0 Laughter.\u00a0 And it meets that well.\u00a0 That’s entertainment!<\/p>\n

Hypnotherapy is for life change.\u00a0 Your positive changes in behaviors, thoughts, feelings to improve your quality and experience of your time on planet earth.\u00a0 Stage hypnosis and hypnotherapy:\u00a0 same animal, different saddle.<\/p>\n
