Hi, Hypnosis Friends!

With the BC wildfires burning and blowing haze and smoke into our world here in the Seattle area, the LAST thing you need to be doing is adding your own smoke to the mix.

It’s hard enough to breathe out there.

I have a new vehicle.  And one of the things I’ve been enjoying about it (besides the “new car” smell), is how clean the windshield is and how clearly I can see while I’m driving.  My old vehicle had rock chip repairs right in my line of sight and it was annoying.  However, every time I drove this past week or so, there were thousands of particles of smoke, ash, haze, landing on my windshield and attaching to my windshield.  So it’s hard to see.  The wipers don’t remove the particles.   Annoying times a thousand.  It’s like I need a car wash every day.

I was thinking.  That’s like your lungs.  Each and every time you smoke you’re depositing gunk and junk in there.  And it sticks around.  Not good.

Here’s the bottom line.  Your thinking mind isn’t enough to get the job done, if you’re like most people.  Your conscious mind is thinking, analysis, logic, reason.  I KNOW you have reasons to quit smoking.  If you haven’t (yet), that’s because your conscious mind isn’t strong enough to enforce change.  Your UN-conscious can!  This is the part of the mind we communicate with in hypnosis and NLP.  This part of your mind is the enforcer.  The feeling part of your mind.  Emotion, intuition, creativity.  The good stuff!  If you don’t feel like smoking, you won’t.  Your creative mind will find something more healthy and useful to do, and put it in the places where smoking habit was.  The UN-conscious drivers of behavior and habit are removed.  And you are suddenly able to do the things you’ve been consciously wanting to do.  Or not do.

Hypnosis for New Year’s Resolutions by Alexa Ritter

How many times have you made a New Year’s Resolution?  Maybe 25? 35? 45? 50? 70? And how many times did you stick to your resolution for the entire year? That number, if you are anything like the rest of us, is probably a lot lower.

This is because change can be difficult if one tries to do it through will-power alone.  The main reason why anyone is celebrated or praised for adhering to a New Year’s resolution is because they are fighting an uphill battle and “surviving”.

As Albert Einstein once proclaimed, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.”

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could simply decide to make a change in your life, and then sit back and relax as your wish becomes your mind’s command?

With hypnosis, you don’t even have to try to achieve your goals! The struggle fades away, and the battle is won instantly.  You can say “goodbye” to that miserable year-long process of attempting to create change, and say “hello” to becoming the boss of your own life!

If your boss told you to do something, you would do it without hesitation. Just like your boss is in charge of you at work, your unconscious mind is in charge of how your life works.

However, your unconscious mind isn’t just some old boss – it is you—the manifestation and accumulation of all that you can be, and all the power you have. It is limitless, expansive, creative, and omnipotent, regardless of any preconceived notion of what you can and cannot do.

The reason why you may have struggled to create change in the past is because your conscious, analytical mind stopped you. It then finds a healthful and appropriate way to take you there, and demands compliance from your conscious mind. Your conscious mind stops creating the problem, and fully accepts the effective course of action formulated by your unconscious.

Creative Mind Hypnosis to Stop Smoking, Seattle!

Hi, Seattle Hypnosis Friends!  I love this cover art from my newest “explaining hypnotherapy in a minute or less” video, which I share below:

It’s a beautiful illustration of the human mind.  Everybody talks about “right brain” vs. “left brain.” Well, it’s all one mind and it works together wonderfully well blending the analytic with the creative.  All of it is important, and it’s all useful to us in order to live a balanced, successful life.


My passion lives in the colorful side.  My work is art, and yes, I’m an artist.  My palette is imagination, and emotion and sound and color, and vivid mind images created by words. I grew up in the Seattle area and my dad was an engineer at Boeing, and a brilliant man, very analytical. My mom was a professional artist and poet, and lived passion and creativity.  I feel like I’ve inherited a mind that is the best of both of them.  Yay, me!  🙂  It helps me in my work to help you!

Here is a brief, new video I created today explaining how hypnosis relaxes the thinking mind and stimulates the creative mind–in this instance, for smoking cessation.  The same processes can be used to achieve anything!  Because you have more power than you think, especially when you don’t think.  As our genius buddy, Albert Einstein, liked to say:  “You can’t solve a problem with the same thinking that created it.”

Creative Hypnosis for Quitting Smoking!

Here’s a story to share with you, all about the hypnotic power of a half-eaten rotten banana.

I was working with a Seattle man the other day on quitting smoking. One of the elements of this work is our search for a useful feeling called “hell, no!” This gentleman, his “Hell, no!” was the thought of eating a rotten banana–he declared it the worst disgust feeling he could conjure. Coincidence, and propinquity! I had a half eaten well-past-its-prime squishy black banana in my trash can at the office at that very moment. I fished it out and we gave him several good whiffs, while I used my hypnotic tool kit to set that disgust equal to smoking. He’s done with cigarettes. Cravings are dead.

Long live the rotten banana!  And long live the happy and healthy nonsmoker.

At the same time, and on the flip side of the coin, we also customized some powerful, good Designer Feelings™ in place of smoking, and attached those to undo the habit.  Wonderful feelings that encourage healthy:  calm, contentment, in control, and so on.  Just as what generates disgust is unique person to person, so, too are the good feelings which can kick smoking desire to the curb.  We explore and generate both in our Greater Seattle hypnotherapy center.

On my many websites, I like to highlight the different things hypnosis is good for.  Short answer:  pretty much EVERYTHING.  Michael likes to say:  “If the brain is involved, hypnosis helps.”  Yes.

http://www.stopsmokingseattle.com has lots of good information about studies on hypnotic success with quit smoking.  Kind of like a battle royale, and hypnosis wins!  Hypnosis is more effective than other stop smoking tools:  nicotine gum, the patch, drugs, herbal remedies, acupuncture, and so on.  I also talk about all the chemicals that are in cigarettes, and how your body has the capacity to heal itself from the effects of cigarettes and the time frames involved.  It’s interesting stuff.

Happy Summer, From Mindworks Hypnosis!

It’s Summertime for Hypnosis!

Hi, Hypno-Friends!

I love the changing of the seasons.  They’re all good.  But summer, well, summer is special.

Warmth.  Essense of carefree (a remnant from childhood, perhaps), Rainier cherries, watermelon, long days, sunshine, beaches, camping, play.  Joy.  That’s summer.

Today is the first day of summer.  My calendar says so!  🙂  Enjoy yours!

I like demarcations!  Places where one thing ends and another begins. You have now left King County and are entering Snohomish County.  You have now graduated from sophomore to junior in college.  You have now left springtime and it’s “officially” summer. Lots of these change-markings are arbitrary.

You know what’s really cool?  We also get to set our own demarcations!  Today is….  and fill in the blank with the newness of your choice.  I help people move in this way.  We’ve moving!  Not with boxes and vans, but into new behaviors and identities.  Yesterday, I helped some people to become nonsmokers.  Smoking ends, healthy begins.  GREAT demarcation.

Happy summer, and here’s to creating some of your own “official” and happy changes.

A friend of mine created this video for me.  I love it!  He’s punching and kicking the heck out of that bag.  If there’s something, some old habit you’d like to kick out of your life (SMOKING, for example), well, it’s easier than that and only takes one muscle.  Your brain muscle.  If you only knew how strong that is.

Yes, New Years is looming, which for me personally is a wonderful thing.  My wedding anniversary, 26 years now, happens in a few weeks.  I like fresh, I like new.  We’re moving to a new home in January as well.  (My office stays in Bellevue!)  All this is good.  I’m resolving that 2012 should be my best year ever!  Do you likewise!

The Art of Strategic Change

Hi, Guys!  I have a riddle for you!  🙂

What does a military strategist and a skilled NLP change worker have in common?  Answer:  A LOT!!

Here’s my goal in the work I do with clients:  strategic change, elegant change, fast change, helping clients get the most bang for the buck, finding the key strongholds of the problem, and taking them out in strategic, rapid fire sequence.  Using imagination, strategy, and fire power to win “the war” against the issue at hand.

My “strategic change” blitzkrieg is a different approach than  traditional “talk therapy” counselors.  They’re all about discussion, about rolling around in the muck, accentuating and revivifying negative thoughts and emotions over and over  and feeling bad.  Metaphor:  A counselor would want to figure out WHY an unwashed person smells so bad, uncover the origins and chemistry of body odor and what the person did to create it, whereas I would say:  You smell bad.  Take a shower.  And I’d show them the shower, and even turn it on for them.

Talk therapies:  It’s not about movement, and it’s not about change.  It would not be unusual for a person to see a counselor for YEARS on a particular issue.  To me, that’s absolutely ridiculous.  RIDICULOUS!   Unconscionable, really.  Is it about the money, about milking people for money?  There’s no way in hell change takes years.  It takes minutes.  That’s the firepower of NLP and hypnosis.

And I’m always working to increase my personal firepower!  To increase my arsenal of weaponry.  How?  I am continuously learning more, and becoming more and more skilled, mastering the work of hypnosis, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, conversational hypnosis, energy work, and more.   It’s a different focus than some hypnotists.

Some of my colleagues spend their money on marketing guys to help artificially pump up their web presence and SEO (Search engine optimization)–one guy pays someone else who is not even a hypnotist to write his blog and the posts are insipid!–you know where I spend my money?  On learning, on live trainings with the best of the best!  To become better at the work I do.  To me that’s massively more important and I believe leads to true and legitimate success.  My arsenal is knowledge and skill, not fluff and puff.

Another hypnotist friend of mine (and he’s wonderful and I love him) tells clients:  “it will require at least three sessions and possibly six before results start to show.”

Frankly, that’s not good enough for me.  No way.  I expect some level of positive results to show after a single session with me, and complete success on any specific issue in at MOST four sessions.  What happens though, is that an array of issues are interlinked (for example confidence and self esteem and weight loss), and all of that is sorted through in around four sessions.

One of my clients yesterday used this phrase describing his desire to quit smoking NOW:  He wanted  “One and Done!”  It’s not always possible to complete the work in a single session depending on the person and his situation, but in his case, we did that for him.  “One and Done!”  Many of my clients experience this!

Am I better than my friend who takes up to six sessions for a change to appear?  Apparently I’m more skilled.  And I know what makes the difference.  It’s the NLP.  Neuro-Linguistic Programming (my specialty) is what makes the difference.  It has been called “hypnosis on steroids.”  It’s faster than traditional hypnosis.  More powerful.  It’s the BIG GUNS in my arsenal for your strategic change.

I enjoy being a military strategist.  Every day is different, and every person is different, and I get to use my creativity and fire off the big guns.  Yay!  Take that smoking!  Blam!  Take that, overweight!  Blam!  Take that, fear!  Blam!  A talk therapist will not take the stronghold.  A hypnotist reading a script at you will not take the stronghold.  I can.  Let’s do it.

I love my client communiques in my mailbox in the morning. “J” of Woodinville says: “And I am doing great…..no urge to smoke or to drink.” Yay! Another alcohol problem bites the dust.

Too much wine, or beer, or hard liquor for that matter, can ruin lives.  Ruin health, figures, families, finances.  If alcohol is a problem in your life, guess what?  You don’t have to label yourself the horrific A-word,  “ALCOHOLIC” and be in battle mode against it for the rest of your life.  No way.

You are someone who drinks.  And you can choose alternative behaviors, including less or no drinking.  Hypnosis helps.  NLP helps

I’d like to share another client success story with you.  N.B., of Bellevue, Washington is FREE from cigarettes.  Free from cravings.  Free from the disgusting, pocket-draining, health-hurting habit.  FREE!  And she’s delighted with that change, which she never dreamed possible.  Of course it is.  Was.  And always will be.  When there’s skilled hypnosis and NLP afoot to help.  Here’s what she says:

“I am so proud that I have not smoked all this time.  It’s amazing!  I can’t believe that I have done it!  I used to believe that I could not live without cigarettes.  Now I know I will never be a smoker again!  I’m so happy I met you, Connie.”

Why My Desk Drawer Is Full Of Cigarettes.

Hello, Hypnosis Friends!

It’s time to clean out my work desk.  It’s getting cluttered.  And it’s full of things I don’t want.  Nobody does.

Some formerly-smoking clients like to give me “gifts” as they’re leaving their Neuro-Linguistic Hypnotherapy session(s).  They hand me their last package of cigarettes, and say:  “I don’t need these.  I’m so done with cigarettes.”

I’ve been keeping these “gifts” for a reason.  Part of the work I do is TESTING.  How do we know the hypnosis is working?  The proof is the pudding and you, my clients, are the pudding.  How do you respond?  Is it different than when you walked in the door?

With a spider phobia client we go into the garden and look for spiders, so he/she can stick their face two inches from a spider and FEEL the difference.  Nothing.  Calm.  With a fear-of-heights client, we’ll walk into the open 2nd level atrium in my building and lean over the edge, and FEEL the difference.  Nothing.  Calm.  With a former smoker, he/she will hold the cigarette, smell the cigarette, look at the package, and FEEL the difference.  Zero interest.  Zero attraction.  Indifference.  Or, as useful, disgust, as in “I don’t want those.”

So I keep these packages of cigarettes around for testing.  But I don’t need so many packages in my drawer.  I’ll just keep one.

Other “gifts” include tins of chewing tobacco, and various packages of candy.  Clients have handed them over telling me that they’re choosing healthy instead.  I have some in my drawer, and it’s also a nice test for ME–someone who was a “candy addict” for decades upon decades.  I test me, and no, I have zero interest  in eating that candy.  Forgetaboutit!  Good thing, too.  Because I’ve re-shaped my body with hypnosis and I intend to keep it that way.

Shifting Reality

Hi, Hypno-Friends!

This is pretty mind-boggling.  🙂  Look at this picture:

Is it spinning in a clockwise motion, or is it spinning counter-clockwise?  Once you have identified the spin, reverse it.  Just look at it, imagine it’s motion in the opposite direction, and voila!  It happens.  The direction of spin is reversed.  You didn’t know your mind was so powerful, did you?  (I did know.)  🙂

A thing is a thing. Or is it? The way we see it, well, that’s up for grabs.  Spin your perceptions in a way that makes your life better!  It’s all under your control.  How interesting would it be to you if your problems became absolute non-problems?  For example, if desire to smoke became “Who cares?”  If lunch shifted from “I must eat cookies” to I’d rather eat a spinach salad.  If the couch and a box of donuts shifted into “I’m getting my butt into the gym!”  If fear of public speaking became calm and confident and articulate.    Here’s what I know to be true:  change your perception/thinking about things and you change everything.

Hi, Guys!

It’s interesting.  I’m offering a couple courses at Bellevue College this autumn.  One is Healthy Hypnosis:  Let Go of Weight and it’s filling up like gangbusters.  The other is Quit Smoking With Self Hypnosis, and there’s less interest in it, apparently.  I find that surprising!   This (self hypnosis) is SUCH a powerful tool for habit change, and the number one habit in the universe which should and can be changed easily is smoking.  As in, don’t do it.  Ever.   And so many people profess to want that!  I can help.  These tools offer massive help, which I share in my class.  The how-to!

All hypnosis is self hypnosis, even the guided work I do in my office with clients.  This course is even bigger than that.  It’s like the old saying.  Give a guy a fish, and he’s got a fish.  For dinner tonight.  That’s nice.   TEACH a guy to fish, and he’s got fish forever.  Bring on the tartar sauce!  🙂  That’s wonderful.  I want to teach you how to fish for change.  The course title is about one particular habit:  Smoking!  But it can be used for so much more than that.  And I want my students to use it for so much more than that.  Hypnosis is a life-changer, a life-enhancer, beyond quantification, really.

Quit Smoking With Self Hypnosis begins this month, September 27 and continues the following week on October 4th.  Do you have something better to do on a couple Monday nights than improve your life dramatically?
